The Block 2024: Surprising reason why one team quits the show revealed
EXCLUSIVE: Here’s why one of this year’s teams decided to leave the reality TV competition.
While The Block viewers are well aware by now that one of this year’s teams will quit the competition midway through filming, the reason behind their exit has yet to be revealed - until now. A production insider tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the Blue Team’s Jesse and Paige will leave the reality show on their own accord in week five, and the reason behind their decision will have audiences asking themselves what they would do in their position.
“Jesse and Paige asked themselves a real question: Is the chance of making money worth risking their relationship?” the source shares. “Channel Nine gave them the go-ahead to leave the show after some heated exchanges on their hot microphones. It was a really tough decision, but both Jesse and Paige believe Australia will embrace their decision positively.”

Our insider adds that viewers will see their relationship put to the test in the first five weeks of the season and things become “pretty toxic”.
“They make the right decision, but the jury is out on how Australia will feel with their overall time on the show being quite polarising,” they continue.
This comes after The Block’s executive producer Julian Cress, who co-created the series in 2003 alongside David Barbour, confirmed that one team quit this season and viewers will be surprised by their reasoning.
“I’m not saying these people left because they were lazy,” he told TV Tonight. “They wanted to do it, but it just became enormously challenging at some point and their reasons for leaving are pretty remarkable. I think it will start a very interesting conversation amongst the audience.”
What happens after Paige and Jesse quit?
It’s been reported that sisters Maddy and Charlotte from NSW replaced Jesse and Paige when they decided to quit, and were given just 24 hours' notice to jump in and finish the job.
While they may be the youngest contestants this season, the dynamic duo have plenty of renovation experience under their belt after previously transforming a 1950s weatherboard cottage.
Julian Cress has also confirmed that Jesse and Paige will make a return to the show before the finale, revealing: “They’re very glad for all the support they were given, and believe that they made the right decision.”
Are Paige and Jesse still together?
Audiences have been ablaze on social media this week with comments about the House 1 couple’s relationship dynamic, with many predicting that they may have split.
“Jesse and Paige will absolutely break up at some point... not the first couple to come undone by #TheBlock!” one person posted on X, while another said, “I smell a divorce on the horizon”.
Despite their occasional clashes, Yahoo Lifestyle can confirm that Jesse and Paige are still together and going ahead with their wedding later this year. The couple even travelled to Europe with friends last month visiting the United Kingdom and Cyprus, and Paige shared a sweet Instagram post celebrating Jesse’s 30th birthday in June.
“Loved doing your 20s with you 🫶🏽 Happy 30th to the best man I know,” she wrote alongside a gallery of loved-up snaps.

“Paige and Jessie really struggled with the high pressure of The Block and away from that pressure the two are a very happy couple and get along famously,” an insider tells us.
“The network will always put the mental health of contestants as their highest priority and network executives are forever making changes to how their processes protect their contestants.
“Some people forget reality TV is only in its second decade. There is constant learning and the show should be commended for introducing the conversation of what it would look like for the couple if they walked away.”
