The Block stars spill on cast friendships amid 'bullying' allegations: 'Appalling'
EXCLUSIVE: Courtney and Grant share details about this season’s cast dynamic.
The Block’s newest team Maddy and Charlotte have had quite a rough first few days in the competition after they joined last week to replace Jesse and Paige. Not only have they been having issues with their building team and their plasters were 'stolen' by House 5, but they’ve also been on the outs with most of their co-stars for seemingly no reason.
The sisters revealed during Monday night’s episode that only “a handful of people” had acknowledged Maddy’s 25th birthday while a majority of their fellow teams gave her the cold shoulder.
“I definitely think it’s a close-knit group and there’s a part of me that sometimes feels like we’re not part of that,” Maddy shared during her confessional. “It’s one of those things where it's like, how long do we play catch up before either they let us in, or we just kind of do our own journey?”

Meanwhile, their co-stars each gave a brutal response when asked to share their opinions on Maddy and Charlotte in their piece-to-camera interviews.
“Charlotte and Maddy are babies, they’re little itty bitty babies,” Kylie remarked, while her partner Brad simply responded, “Who?”.
“I’ve just got no opinion on them. I think they’re there, they’re in House 1,” Grant said. “I still look at it like it’s Paige and Jesse’s place.”
Mimi was also caught telling her co-stars after a group dinner that she believes Maddy and Charlotte “need more depth and drama in their personalities”.
Courtney spills on surprising cast dynamic
Viewers took to social media throughout Monday night's episode to call out the way Maddy and Charlotte have been “ostracised” and “bullied” by their co-stars, with one person commenting, “Very disappointed in the behaviour by these women on this season”.
“These contestants should be ashamed of themselves for treating the girls so badly,” another added, while a third said, “The disrespectful and heartless treatment they are receiving from the other contestants is appalling”.
Despite what may have been shown on TV, however, Courtney asserts to Yahoo Lifestyle that the women in the cast all got along quite well during filming. She adds that she and Grant went on the show with the main goal of building a house, and the newfound friendships were just a bonus.
“I feel like generally, I get along with a lot of people, so I felt like that was going to happen and I was going to make friends. But we did go into the competition saying, we're not going to try and make friends. If it happens, it happens,” she shares.
“It was a surprise, and I think it definitely helps you keep going. It’s such a good support system to have. Kylie, Mimi, the girls, Paige, we were very lucky to all get along.”
Grant reveals unseen friendship
Although it’s yet to be portrayed on TV, Grant tells Yahoo Lifestyle that he and Kristian also formed one of the closest bonds in the competition.
“Without giving away too much, one thing that definitely comes out is a close friendship between Kristian and I. We were definitely the most similar in terms of people. We got along from day one, and I don't know why it wasn't caught on camera earlier,” he details.

“I'm somebody that doesn't have many mates outside of work. I’ve got a handful of mates, and a couple of them made up of my brothers. So I didn't really come on here expecting to make friends with anybody. I was here to build a house, really. I had fun, but I wasn’t here to make sure that I had fun. And in the end, I became really, really close mates with Kristian. He'll be a friend that I've got for life. He's as close as my brothers after 13 weeks, to be honest.”
