The upcoming twentieth season of The Block Island is premiering Monday, August 12, at 7:30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

The 2024 season will see five teams of everyday Aussies set to transform rundown holiday homes on Phillip Island, Victoria into luxury properties. Ahead of the show’s highly-anticipated return, Channel Nine has shared a new promo video teasing plenty of surprise renovations and intense drama.

The clip introduces viewers to the 2024 contestants and hints at what each of them will be bringing to the competition. The cast is shown walking out of the ocean dressed in their team colours and holding various tools as a dramatic voiceover announces: “Prepare to meet your new Blockhead couples.”

The first couple introduced are the Green Team’s Kylie and Brad, parents of four from Cairns, Queensland whose previous experience includes building the home they currently live in. Kylie, 37, is a hairdresser and wholesale and supply business owner with signature bright green hair, while Brad, 32, is an electrician and plumber.

The trailer features Kylie shopping at a home improvement store and telling the worker that the theme she’s going for is “black, black, black, black, black, black, black”.

The Red Team’s Courtney and Grant have been married for three years and while they built and styled their home in Western Sydney, they don’t have much hands-on renovation experience. Courtney, 32, is an event account manager and furniture designer - boasting 57,000 followers on Instagram for her online furniture business The Lazy Stylist - and Grant, 30, is a landscape business development manager.

The promo clip shows Courtney explaining on-camera that she and her husband are “more mates than romantic people”.

“I hope you don’t sleep with your mates,” Grant replies.

The Yellow Team’s Ricky and Haydn have been best mates for 20 years and predict that they might “clash” when it comes to styling their rooms. Both from Melbourne, Ricky, 34, is a plumber and Haydn, 37, is an IT manager whose wife was eight and half months pregnant when they began filming The Block.

In the trailer, co-host Shelley Craft is seen asking the loveable larrikins about their “overall plan”.

“Absolutely just wing it,” Ricky says.

The Block 2024's Jesse and Paige.

The Blue Team’s Jesse and Paige are the youngest couple on this season of The Block and are getting married at the end of the year after seven years together. The West Australians are novices when it comes to renovating but have entered the show with a style in mind. Jesse, 29, is a carpenter and Paige, 27, is a claims specialist known for being direct and speaking her mind.

This couple is tipped to bring the drama this season, with Paige shown telling her fiancé in a panic: “Now we have floor-to-ceiling tiles!”

Yahoo Lifestyle revealed in April that Jesse and Paige decided to pull out of the competition six weeks into filming as they buckled under the stress of the high-pressure environment - so it will be interesting to see how their storyline is portrayed on the show.

The Block 2024's Kristian and Mimi.

Rounding out this year’s cast is Team Purple’s Kristian and Mimi whose wedding in late 2023 went viral on TikTok thanks to the unique way the bridal party entered the reception. The couple renovated the Adelaide house they are currently living in and describe their style as “modern contemporary”. Kristian, 31, is an electrician and Mimi, 28, manages her family’s Vietnamese restaurant.

“We all have our husbands by the balls,” Mimi remarks in the trailer, to which Kristian replies, “Not true”.

“I’m joking!” Mimi says with a smile before looking seriously at the camera.

Hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft will be returning this season while real estate director Marty Fox is officially replacing longtime judge Neale Whitaker alongside Shaynna Blaze and Darren Whitaker.

Dan Reilly has also become the show’s sole foreman as Keith Schleiger wasn’t able to make the move to Phillip Island, although both Neale and Keith are expected to make guest appearances.

Meanwhile, a group of All-Star contestants will be returning to the show to give a helping hand to the new cast while also working together on a secret project.

The former Blockheads set to make a guest appearance are Steph and Gian (2023), Eliza and Liberty (2023), Omar and Oz (2022), Tom and Sarah-Jane (2022), Ronnie and Georgia (2017, 2021), Jimmy and Tam (2020), Andy and Deb (2019), Kyal and Kara (2014), Michael and Carlene (2014), Alisa and Lysandra (2013, 2014), and Dale and Sophie (2012).
