‘Terrifier’ Writer-Director Says 4th & Final Film Will “Finally Reveal Arts’ Origin”

Art the Clown is back for one last terrifying ride, which will provide horror fans closure on the murderous jester’s arc.

Writer-director Damien Leone announced on Wednesday that Terrifier 4 is “in the works” after the third installment was released in September, sharing the cover page for the latest script in the franchise on X.

“Thank you for all the bday wishes,” he wrote in the post. “Figure I’d give you a present in return! The script for Terrifier 4 is in the works and it’s shaping up to be a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, emotional and utterly satisfying conclusion. P.s., I will finally reveal Art’s origin.”

In 2023, Leone told Deadline he has a “satisfying conclusion” in mind for the horror character, which was “pretty much cemented when I wrote Part 2.”

“It doesn’t have to end, and you know, once we open the door of the supernatural, anything’s possible in this franchise,” he added. “So, I don’t think you could ever officially put the nail in the coffin, but if I ever did want to end it, I now have a satisfying conclusion for myself as an artist, as the creator.”

Following Art’s appearance in Leone’s 2008 short The 9th Circle and the horror anthology All Hallow’s Eve (2013), the clown led the Terrifier trilogy, which has spanned 2016 to 2024. The latest film in the franchise, which premiered in October in France, grossed nearly $90 million.
