Sunrise's Shirvo roasted on-air after Dancing With The Stars clip resurfaces
The Olympic sprinter competed on the very first season of the reality show.
Sunrise host Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington was left red-faced on Friday morning when the breakfast show played footage from his 2004 stint on Dancing With The Stars. During an interview with this year’s contestants Lisa McCune, James Stewart and Hayden Quinn, Nat Barr took a swipe at her co-host’s previous performance on the reality show.
Lisa made a comment that dancing should be an Olympic sport when Nat chimed in and said that Shirvo, who was an Olympic sprinter, is a great example of how “you can be really, really good at one thing” and not so great when you hit the dance floor. Sunrise then played footage of Shirvo wearing a ruffled white and yellow shirt while dancing the samba and “shaking his tailfeather”.
“Can I just ask, so I’ve burnt this tape that many times - how do you keep finding it?” he remarked. “My partner was Natalie Lowe, she had such a tough time.”
“Yeah we’re not talking about her,” Nat interrupted.

Home and Away star James Stewart then jumped in and said that while he thought Shirvo’s shimmy was “okay”, he wasn’t so sure about his costume.
“He looks like a little cockatoo on stage shaking around,” celebrity chef Hayden Quinn added, leaving the hosts in stitches.
Shirvo went on to say that he still does the shimmy when he dances because he “doesn’t know anything else”.
“You’re so good at it, that’s why,” Nat replied. “Guys, if you make it to one of the later rounds, just bring out the shimmy.”
Shirvo competed on the very first season of Dancing with the Stars alongside fellow celebrities Pauline Hanson, James Tomkins, John Wood, Justin Melvey, Katrina Warren and Gabrielle Richens. He was sent home thanks to his aforementioned samba performance and finished in fifth place, while the season was won by Bec Hewitt (née Cartwright).
Dancing With The Stars' 'outrageous outfits'
The hilarious on-air moment comes shortly after Hayden told Yahoo Lifestyle he leaned into every part of the Dancing With The Stars experience while filming this year's season - including the crazy costumes.
“You've got to be vulnerable, you’ve got to want to wear the outrageous outfits, do something different, the sequins, the glitter, the shiny bits and pieces, getting the oil on and all that sort of stuff,” he said.
“The fake tan, I didn't realise that was a thing. I had more fake tans than I think I ever will in my whole entire life. But coming off the back of it I thought, you know, a fake tan’s not a bad idea this time of year in Sydney.”
