Sunrise's Sam Mac announces birth of second child: 'Love the name'

Sunrise star Sam Mac has delighted fans on social media with the news that he and his partner Rebecca James have welcomed their second child. The couple, who are already parents to their almost 2-year-old Margot Grace, took to Instagram on Thursday to share the exciting announcement.

“It’s a girl 🩷 Again 🩷🩷 We are absolutely delighted to welcome Mabel August McMillan to the world (Born last night 14/8/24),” he wrote alongside a sweet selfie of himself, Rebecca and their newborn.

The TV weatherman went on to say that it’s his “destiny to be surrounded by beautiful women”, which he joked was a “stark contrast” to his time in high school.

“I’ll share more details soon, but Bec was our warrior yet again, Mabel was deliciously chunky & chilled & now we take a collective breather before Hurricane Margot passes through to meet her baby sister later tonight,” he added.

The pair’s friends and families took to the comments to share their well wishes for the family of four, with Sam’s Sunrise colleague Edwina Bartholomew writing: “You all look remarkably fresh faced. Enjoy this beautiful time.”

“What a brilliant thing! Love the name. Congrats to all,” Amanda Keller shared, followed by Sally Bowrey who said, “Congrats!!! How beautiful”.

“Hugest congratulations to you both… and to Margot,” Johanna Griggs replied.

“How wonderful 🩷 Congratulations!” Home and Away’s Emily Symons commented while The Wiggles’ John Pearce wrote, “Yayyy congratulations guys!”.

Rebecca’s brother, Olympic snowboarder Scotty James, also said: “She’s beautiful, well done you two.”

Is Sam Mac married?

Sam announced in December 2023 that he had proposed to his partner Rebecca James after three years of dating.

“Ladies & gentlemen, my fiancée!” he captioned a loved-up snap with his bride-to-be showing off her engagement ring. “She said yes 💍 My secret 2023 New Year’s resolution was to propose to my darling Rebecca sometime this year….So I guess this is what you’d call a ‘buzzer beater’.”

The pair began dating during the pandemic in 2020 after being introduced by a mutual friend on Instagram. They quickly struck up a friendship and spoke every day for six months before finally meeting, and then went public with their romance in March 2021.

Who is Rebecca James?

Rebecca James is a personal stylist and creative consultant and co-directs a content production company with Sam called Pearl Studios.

She moved from Melbourne to Sydney after border restrictions eased in 2021 and the couple bought a house together in October that year.

Rebecca’s brother is Olympic snowboarder Scotty James, who is married to billionaire Formula One heiress Chloe Stroll. The pair tied the knot in Venice in May 2023 with several huge stars in attendance, including Daniel Ricciardo, Michael Douglas and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.
