Sunrise viewers roast new 'sterile and unfriendly' studios: 'Too much'

The new Eveleigh set sparked a lot of debate.

Sunrise viewers have taken to social media to roast the show's new 'sterile' and 'unfriendly' studio in Eveleigh after famously broadcasting from Martin Place for many years.

The Martin Place studio was famous for its large windows, showing the bustling CBD in the background, with viewers able to see inside the studio and even appear on TV behind the hosts.

Natalie Barr, Matt 'Shirvo' Shirvington, Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew appeared from the new set for the first time on Monday morning, but the new look sparked debate online.

"Sorry but Martin Place was loads better, loved being able to see the actual world go by in the background, this new place seems like a windowless, dark, damp, basement dwelling," one Twitter user wrote.

"The background is wayyyyyyy too busy. It is actually hard to focus with all the random graphics flying around," another said, adding, "It also looks very American... not great."

"Looks exactly like NBC America set," a third agreed, while others called it "too much".

"The new @sunriseon7 set at @Channel7 Sydney is much too sterile - almost unfriendly - unlike the lively view of people in Martin Place in the CBD," someone else said. "Maybe live images of the Harbour Bridge or Opera House would 'un-stiffen' the new 'cold' view."

"I have to say the colour is so similar to the Today Show I actually thought for a second it was!" one Instagram user said. "Can’t understand why you guys would do such a similar look!"

"So sad that people from outside can no longer interact through glass, I like old set better," another added.

Others, however, loved the new look, with one user writing, "Absolutely loving the new set and look of Sunrise! So fresh and vibrant! Love it!"

"Looks fabulous," another said, while a third agreed, writing, "It looks amazing - so bright and lovely, and your team looks great too."

“For many years, we’ve been physically once removed from the rest of the network. Together alone. Not anymore. Sunrise and The Morning Show teams are now ensconced side by side with their 7NEWS colleagues and surrounded by the rest of the network.

“It may sound unremarkable, but for the workforce it has been a remarkable shift. Complimented by state-of-the art studios made for broadcast, what’s been created will set the standard for today and last well into the future,” he said.
