Weekend Sunrise hosts left shocked by on-air move 'We're getting unplugged'

Sunrise has a new home and began moving things around while Monique Wright and Matt Doran were still on-air.

Weekend Sunrise hosts Monique Wright and Matt Doran were left shocked when producers began moving the set while they were still on-air.

The duo were just finishing off a segment over the weekend when the lights dimmed and two producers came on to move the couch.

“Are you taking the sofa?” a confused Monique Wright asked.

‘What’s happening here, why are we moving? What is Pete doing on set?,” Matt added.

“We’re getting unplugged. What’s happening here?”

Monique looked totally bewildered as she was wheeled off set, saying: “Well don’t go anywhere, we’ll be back, I guess.”

While it may seem bizarre, it was actually part of Sunrise’s big move from Martin Place to South Eveleigh in Sydney.

The whole team has been moved to the new suburb, with the first show going live this morning from the new-look set.

For the first time in more than 40 years, the entire Seven Sydney operation and all broadcast and operational staff are now under one roof.

The head office is five times larger than the previous Martin Place location and every program now has a permanent set.

“After many years broadcasting from Martin Place – and 19 years as the #1 breakfast TV show across Australia – the time was right to build a new home for Sunrise and the rest of our market-leading Sydney News and Public Affairs programs,” Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said.

“They might be in a new studio, but Nat, Matt and the rest of the team will continue to bring all of Australia the best, brightest and most informed breakfast TV program in the country. It’s great to have them all in South Eveleigh.”

This morning, viewers got a first glimpse at the new ‘brighter and fresher look’ Sunrise set, with many divided over what they thought of the new colours.

“It looks all boxed in. Should have stayed at Martin place,” oner person said.

“Not a fan of all the colour yellow on the new set of Sunrise. It is very in your face and it takes over. Very glary. Just too much. I love all the earthy colours but with the amount of yellow used on the screen during the news being read, just makes it hard to look watch. The colour should not taken over the screen, but compliment what is on. Disappointing,” another wrote.

However, others loved the new design, with one person writing: “Looks very comfortable and up-to-date. Enjoyed look behind the scenes. Enjoy.”

“Beautiful,” another said.
