Sam Mac 'destroys' Sunrise set during 'last ever show' before move

The breakfast show is relocating from its iconic Martin Place location.

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac began ‘destroying’ the breakfast show’s set on Friday morning to celebrate its final broadcast from Brekky Central.

After nearly two decades in its iconic Martin Place location, Sunrise will be moving from Sydney’s CBD to Channel Seven’s new “state-of-the-art studio space” in South Eveleigh.

Weekend Sunrise and The Morning Show will also be broadcast from the new location, while 7NEWS Spotlight and 7NEWS.com.au have already made the transition.

Sam addressed the move on Friday morning while presenting the weather from Brekky Central, telling viewers that everything had to go.

“I probably shouldn’t use this for commercial reasons but if anyone watching would like to buy a second-hand Fuji Xerox printer, it’s as good as new,” he said while wheeling a large printer around the empty office space. “This is on the market now, we’ll start the bidding at $150.

“Look, we’ve got to get through a lot of stuff today. This is our last ever show at Martin Place.”

Sam then showed off the “completely deserted” area of the office where the staff used to sit before they moved to the new facilities.

“Or is that just a reflection of the television industry in 2023,” he joked. “I don’t know, you decide, guys.”

'So much fun'

After giving a brief tour of the empty office, Sam began making his own changes to the space.

“It is the last ever show at Martin Place before we move to the new studios, so we’re going to basically sell things, we’re going to show you around, we’re going to talk about people’s favourite memories, we’re going to rip things off the walls,” he said.

He then dramatically tore a large piece of wallpaper off a wall promoting the various Seven shows broadcast from the studio.

“We’re allowed to do this, this is so much fun!” he exclaimed. “Sorry Weekend Sunrise!”

Weekend Sunrise host Monique Wright, who is currently filling in for Nat Barr while she’s away, then chimed in with her own suggestions for Sam.

“Hey, just while you’re destroying things, Sam Mac,” she said. “That printer that you had before, I have got a really bad relationship with that. Can you take to that with a hammer? Because if anyone can tell me what ‘PC load letter’ means, I’ll give you a hundred bucks.”
