Sarah Michelle Gellar arrived at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards red carpet on Friday, wearing a sleeveless, floor-length black Oscar de la Renta gown with a prominent black rose embellishment at the bust and an elegant pencil-shaped skirt.

She wore her hair in an updo with loose strands on each side. She accessorized with jewelry by Kavant & Sharart and Yeprem, Jimmy Choo shoes and a black Roger Vivier clutch with a rectangular diamond-jeweled buckle embellishment.

Gellar is presenting at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards ceremony. After a long hiatus from acting, the actress is now playing Tanya Martin in the Paramount+ show, “Dexter: Original Sin.” Gellar recently confirmed that a sequel to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is in development at Hulu, produced by Gail Berman and directed by Chloé Zhao.

Over the years, Gellar has often opted for the simple sleekness of a black dress. The actress recently joined other Hollywood celebrities at Nic’s on Beverly to toast Christian Siriano for his 15th anniversary in Los Angeles. There, she wore a black strapless cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline, corset top and pleat patterns.

At the 2023 Canneseries International Festival, where she received the Canal+ Icon Award for her life’s work, she wore a black Maria Lucia Hohan Tania evening gown. The silk mousseline ensemble featured a plunging neckline, tulle details and a ruffle-adorned tiered skirt.

Last year, Gellar partnered with luxury skincare brand Philosophy in a horror-themed campaign inspired by her classic films “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “The Grudge.” The campaign, for Philosophy’s new Ultimate Miracle Worker Face & Neck Cream, aimed to dispel misconceptions behind retinol use.

The 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards takes place on Friday, broadcasting live on E! from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The ceremony, originally scheduled for Jan. 12 and then Jan. 26, was postponed due to catastrophic wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Chelsea Handler returns as host for the third consecutive year, leading the star-studded event that celebrates the most outstanding achievements in film and television for 2024.
