‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Feud: Can You Send Memes to Your Friend’s Ex?
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was once Bravo’s stuffiest show, self-seriously winding through plots without a hint of absurdity.
Thankfully, the attempt at quiet luxury has all but dissipated as the series leans into its gauche exterior. That’s how we’ve found ourselves celebrating the release of Erika Jayne’s new single “Dominos” at a classic Hollywood locale, which serves as a simple backdrop to discuss if it’s okay to send memes to your friend’s estranged husband.
RHOBH isn’t often thought of as the funny franchise—typically usurped by Atlanta, New York City, and Salt Lake City—but the show has slowly shaken off the humorless Vanderpump era in favor of something greater. Back from a holiday break that felt eternal (perhaps an indication that addictions come in many shapes, sizes, and TV channels), The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has delivered its best episode of the season.
It’s not quite a tour-de-force, but a balanced episode where solo footage shines, feuds brew, and the women fight at an absurd event is simply all we need after the holidays. Really, it feels like the first sip of water I’ve taken after months in a barren desert.
If there’s one thing this episode proves, it’s that all six diamond holders are contributing to the dynamic pretty well. Bozoma’s solo footage may be like her RHOBH peers in the sense that it’s boring, but her role as Dorit sycophant is so, so random and funny. Has Dorit ever asked her a single question about her life? It’s unlikely, and to Bozoma, that’s okay.
“Dorit likes to talk and I like to listen. This is a match made in heaven,” she admits in a confessional. Dorit has finally found a cast member who enjoys her long-winded diatribes, and it’s inflating her ego at rapid speed.
Bozoma’s a great find for the cast in that she’s filling the relatable, voice-of-reason archetype while worshipping at the altar of Dorit. It’s like if Cynthia Bailey decided to lay down her life for Drew Sidora.
Maybe Bozoma is just so excited to see an activated Dorit. She does have a past in the entertainment industry, and she’s doing her best to keep the star happy. Not only is she hyping up Dorit’s delusions, but Bozoma has set her sights on holding Sutton accountable.
It was only inevitable she’d turn on Sutton given every single newbie since Ms. Stracke joined has used her as a starter feud. But, unlike the D.O.A. esophagus drama, this is tangible. It’s an authentic slow burn, something rarely seen in Sutton feuds. She’s just so cataclysmic at all times that her feuds tend to spiral out of control almost immediately. Maybe it’s Sutton finally learning strategy after five years or maybe it’s Boz’s subtler approach, but both women are treading awful lightly.
When the ladies gather at the Viper Room, Boz and Sutton step aside to hash out their growing resentments. Here, Boz calls Sutton “dangerous” as the two smile super hard while slowly backing away from the other. Who knows where that dynamic’s going, but it’s a very welcome development given the Beverly Hills proclivity to latch onto one single feud per season.
Thankfully, Sutton’s so volatile that she’s simply incapable of sticking to the Beverly Hills mindset. That’s led us to this accidental Dorit feud, too, as the two socially inept stars continue to drive right into each other.
“Her life is bad and she’s angry!” Sutton says, justifying her comments from last episode. The way Sutton speaks in such definitive terms about the harrowing life of Dorit is truly so funny. Like, yes, I said Dorit’s life sucks, but that’s because it does! And no one disagrees.
Meanwhile, Kyle vs. Dorit is back in action after a one-episode hiatus. Having revealed to Garcelle that she still “textses” PK, Kyle’s in hot water for breaking the girl code. It’s interesting as Garcelle never actually delivers the bone to Dorit, and yet, the child of the world spends the entire episode speculating. Does she have a rare type of intuition only found in the smartest of people, or did a producer tip her off?
Despite Kyle’s insistence she’s a “girl’s girl,” it’s simply comical she’d try and justify such absurd behavior. PK’s memes must be pretty darn funny for Kyle to risk it all. And yet, knowing PK through this show, it’s probably pseudo-conservative AI slop.
By the Luann de Lesseps definition of the girl code, I fear Kyle’s guilty of all charges. She simply doesn’t know how to be a kind, supportive friend. That’s why she makes the big bucks.
So of course, the two find no resolution as their petty fight continues to escalate. It’s a promising sign, given this feud ending would mean everyone’s having fun and getting along—the kiss of death in Beverly Hills. I hope Dorit seeing Kyle’s confessional about PK being a better friend to her than Dorit reignites the flames even further.
I’m skeptical the “to be continued…” will live up to the comically fake glass break and insinuation of a physical fight. It’ll probably be three tepid minutes of arguing before the ladies disperse and we cut into a montage of the next day, complete with some Selling Sunset “yay, yay, life in L.A.” song. But that’s okay. For now, we can bask in the glory of a great episode and delude ourselves that the next one will be even better. Who’s to say it won’t be?
It’s certainly a good sign when RHOBH is just as fun in its light moments as when the drama explodes. Sure, Erika’s been mostly sidelined all season, but her roaring return to cast doubt on Sutton, remodel her bungalow, and release her new single “Dominos” is the kind of side character behavior I can get behind.
I think the best part is how she doesn’t perform the song, just walking around nonchalantly on stage. Erika Jayne once said she was going to give the gays everything they want. In moments like this, she does just that. I had a dream last night where I heard “Dominos” on the radio. She has infiltrated my mind and now I must pay my respects.
Next week, well… I don’t know. The episode listing sites haven’t updated and we got no “next time on” preview. Next week, the women of Beverly Hills will do things. Stay tuned!
