Raygun's latest 'impressive' move sees the world scrambling for Aussie tracksuit: 'I love it'
This Halloween you should expect to see hundreds of Raygun's walking around the streets.
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn should feel pretty damn flattered right now. The Aussie breakdancer may not have won gold at the 2024 Olympics, but she has landed an ostensibly greater honour by being the second most popular Halloween costume search.
Yep, our very own national treasure (or disgrace, depending on who you talk to) has made such an impression on people around the world that scores of fans/detractors are scrambling to dress as her for the spookiest night of the year. The b-girl was beaten only by Shrunken Head Bob from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in terms of popularity for costume inspiration.
Gunn addressed her Halloween popularity on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie, calling it "impressive."
Raygun responds to Halloween popularity
"Can we touch on Halloween?," Wippa asked. "Because, yes, we have the outfits on. But well, have you been moved by the commitment of Australia to celebrate you at Halloween as well? Because there's quite a lot of skeletons dressed up in the tracksuit doing the iconic kangaroo move!"

Spotlight store stuns with $21 'Raygun' move: 'Best seller this year'
"I love it," she replied. "It is absolutely amazing! The skeletons, the other kind of statues that I've seen around, but also the costumes. I cannot believe the attention to detail on some of these, it's impressive."
Google Trends shared the news of Raygun's latest accolade on their website Frightgeist which also reveals that Delores - yet another character from the Beetlejuice sequel - was the fourth most popular costume this year.
Other characters and celebrities to make the list included Envy and Disgust from Inside Out and pop queen Sabrina Carpenter.
Spotlight sells Raygun costume
For the many, many people who decided to go as Raygun for Halloween this year, Spotlight made it easy, with the retailer adding a 'Break Dance Girl' outfit to its range in time for the occasion.
A TikTok user uploaded a video of the find, showing off the $21 costume - which includes the green and gold pants, top and hat - and captioning it, "Who approved this?"
The move was met with glee as people flooded the comments section, expressing their appreciation for getup.
"Hahaha they are so real for this," one person commented. "Best seller this year," another predicted.
"You will get confused with an Aussie Cricket Player," someone else pointed out. "Probably will still score zero points."
A few other people said they had skeletons as part of their decorations and had been on the hunt for a Raygun costume to dress them in, while others said that they intended to rush to Spotlight to buy the ensemble for themselves.
Raygun's Olympic outfit slammed
While people may be flocking to dress like Raygun now, many were not so kind after her doomed Olympic appearance - with social media lambasting her choice of attire for the prestigious competition.
One person took X at the time to write, "The Aussie B-Girl Raygun dressed as a school PE [teacher] complete with cap while everyone else is dressed in funky breaking outfits has sent me."
Speaking with Yahoo! Sports, Raygun revealed that she didn't know that you could choose an outfit.
"I didn't get the memo that we weren't gonna rep our country colours. What's going on there?" she said.
Speaking about her dancing style, Raygun said that she had a different style, "My style is not as suited to these events."
