Phoebe Dynevor Says She Was the 'Biggest “High School Musical” Fan' Before Working with Zac Efron
Phoebe Dynevor and Zac Efron are costarring in the upcoming movie 'Famous'
Phoebe Dynevor was a Zac Efron fan long before the two filmed a movie together.
During a visit to the Today show on Thursday, Jan. 16, Bridgerton star Dynevor, 29, told host Craig Melvin that working with Efron, 37, on their upcoming film Famous "was incredible."
"He's amazing in this film. I can't wait for people to see it. It's quite an exciting movie," she said of the project. "And Zac, I never told him this, but I was the biggest High School Musical fan. So working with him was amazing."
Co-host Dylan Dreyer then asked Dynevor if she felt star struck around Efron at all when they first met. "Yeah, a little bit, but his character's so lovely," the actress said.
Efron, of course, rose to fame in the mid-2000s as the leading man of Disney's High School Musical trilogy, which saw him portray student-athlete Troy Bolton opposite Vanessa Hudgens' Gabriella Montez.
Dynevor would have been around 11 years old when the first of the movies' three installments starring Efron was released in January 2006. Efron was around 18 years old when the movie released.

Deadline first reported that Efron and Dynevor would costar in the upcoming movie Famous in September 2024. Directed by Jody Hill, it's an adaptation of the 2010 novel with the same title by author Blake Crouch.
According to the outlet, Efron will portray a fictional actor named James Jensen and a fan who strongly resembles the actor named Lance; it is unclear what role Dynevor will hold in the upcoming movie.
Variety reported in November that Nicholas Braun, Stephanie Koenig, Debby Ryan, Mekki Leeper and Cory Michael Smith would also costar in the movie. Deadline also reported in December that Daniel Zovatto and Bill Pullman will also be featured among its cast.
"Lance Dunkquist has one asset that’s about to change his life — he has the face of a movie star. And not just any movie star — Lance is the spitting image of a Hollywood icon, James Jansen," reads a synopsis for the movie, per Deadline. "Lance is about to travel to Los Angeles to make his dream come true. Lance is going to be famous, no matter what it takes…"
Famous does not yet have a release date. The movie will mark Efron's first film role since he costarred with Nicole Kidman in the 2024 Netflix movie A Family Affair. Dynevor most recently appeared in the 2023 psychological thriller Fair Play.
