All About Cameron Diaz's Two Kids, Raddix and Cardinal

Cameron Diaz got her debut role starring in The Mask. And though she had no prior acting experience, her look, charisma, and natural talent captured casting directors, and, soon enough, the world. Diaz's portrayal of the femme fatale Tina Carlyle catapulted her into super stardom. She built out her portfolio in the '90s and early aughts as the frontwoman of Bad teacher, The Other Woman, and Charlie's Angels, and became a bonafide Hollywood It Girl and household name.

However, as the decades went on, she has opted for more low-key ventures, including her wine company, Avaline, and a discreet family life. Super fans will know she married the love of her life and Good Charlotte guitarist, Benji Madden, in a laid-back ceremony in January 2015, when she was 42 and he was 35. The two met at an event that Madden went to with his twin brother, Joel Madden, and his wife, Nicole Richie in May 2014. It appeared to be a when you know, you know moment as Madden popped the question in December of that year.

Even quieter than their marriage, however, was their foray into parenthood. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix, in 2019, followed by a son named Cardinal in 2024, even managing to keep the second pregnancy under wraps.

Though the pair has decided to not share photos or much information about their children to protect their privacy, Diaz has been quite open about motherhood.

Specifically, she spoke about the pressures that come with being an older mom during an interview with Naomi Campbell in October 2020, having had her first child at 47. “When you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard for it. The only pressure for me is like I have to live to be, like 107, you know? So no pressure!” she joked.

The Shrek actress spoke on the topic again during a March 2022 interview with BBC Radio 2’s Michelle Visage. “The women who have children my age are like, literally 20 years younger and that’s an interesting place to be because I’m not that age,” she said. “And that’s totally okay. But I want to feel vital like that for my child.”

In addition to her candor, Diaz appears to absolutely dote over her kids. "They love spending time at home. They prefer to cook and have friends over instead of going out," a source told People a day after Diaz announced the arrival of their son. "And they love just hanging out with their children. They’re amazing parents.”

Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden

Diaz and Madden officially became parents on December 30, 2019, when they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden, at Cedar's Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The couple announced their baby girl's arrival in a since-deleted joint Instagram post.

"Happy New Year from the Maddens! We are so happy, blessed, and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family," they wrote.

Shortly after, a source told People the couple had "waited for so long to have a baby" and are now in "baby bliss" and "the happiest parents."

Six months later, The Mask star spoke about how quickly her daughter was growing while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2020.

“Literally every single day, there’s just leaps and bounds and these things that happen. She’s not the same baby that she was yesterday,” Diaz said. “Where was yesterday? Yesterday is literally gone, and today is a new day, and tomorrow will be a new day that she’s a completely different baby. But, it's so gratifying to actually get to see that growth and to be a part of it."

Cardinal Madden

The couple had a real surprise in store for fans on March 22, 2024, when they announced the birth of their second child, a son named Cardinal. Before then, news of Diaz's pregnancy hadn't become public. Once again taking to Instagram, and protecting the privacy of their little bundle of joy, the pair posted a colorful drawing with the words "A little bird whispered to me" overlaid.

"We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden❤️🙏He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here! For the kids safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures- but he’s a really cute ☺️We are feeling so blessed and grateful 🍀Sending much love from our fam to yours 🙏❤️Best wishes and Good Afternoon!! 🤘⚡️," they captioned the photo.

A couple days later, a source told People that Diaz and Madden felt "beyond lucky" for Cardinal's arrival. “They were always hoping for a second baby because they love being parents," they added. "For years, Cameron wanted to be a mom. She gets very emotional when she talks about the long journey to motherhood.”
