Nikki Webster has made a shocking admission about her song 'Strawberry Kisses' ahead of the Matildas' semi-final game tonight.

Appearing on 2DAY FM's Hughesy, Ed & Erin show, Nikki, talked about how happy it made her to see the Matildas team was such a fan of 'Strawberry Kisses' after the Matildas star Mackenzie Arnold revealed the team had been blaring the '00s hit before games.

"Strawberry Kisses by Nikki Webster has been a team favourite the last couple of weeks," Mackenzie said. "I think it's Steph Catley's favourite song and we've all jumped on the wagon."

"What an honour," Nikki said after hearing the clip. "When people kept sending me these clips of the girls and Steph saying ‘if you don’t like Strawberry Kisses it’s un-Australian’ I was like, you are my favourite person in the world!"

Nikki Webster became a star in the '00s after performing at the 2000 Sydney Olympics at the age of 13, and released her song 'Strawberry Kisses' in 2001. The song debuted and peaked at No.2 on the ARIA charts, staying in that position for seven weeks.

While it still enjoys a lot of radio play and is now having a resurgence thanks to the Matildas, Nikki shockingly revealed that she doesn't actually earn royalties from the hit track.

"I have to ask, how much do you get royalty-wise from us playing that song?" Erin asked.

"Not enough," Nikki laughed.

When Hughesy asked if Nikki cashed a cheque every month, she set the record straight.

"No, I know the songwriters do... because I didn’t write the song," Nikki explained. "I know the songwriters are very happy with me at the moment!"

Taken aback, Erin asked if Nikki received anything as the singer of the track.

“No, it’s recoupable back to the record label for all the money they invest into you as an artist. Having the most expensive video clip in Australia back when I did 'Strawberry Kisses', with the robot, I’m still recouping that money,” Nikki laughed.

“A silly 13-year-old mistake.”
