Netflix fans have been left 'freaking out' over a major Bridgerton season four announcement. Fans have been waiting ever since season three ended to find out whether Benedict (Luke Thompson) or Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) would lead the fourth season, and Netflix has finally revealed that it will be... Benedict!

The teaser video shared, "Next season's most compelling match will be unmasked," before Benedict appeared on the screen, and it continued, "Welcome to the marriage mart, Benedict."

The video then shows someone knocking on Luke's door, with an unknown person saying, "I hear we're fitting you for a suit?".

"I already have an outfit for tonight," Luke tells him.

"Oh no, it's not for tonight, it's for the masquerade ball," the person says.

"In that case, come on in," Luke says with a smile.

Fans on social media went wild for the announcement, with one YouTube commenter writing, "He doesn’t even need a glow up, I’m already obsessed."

"How lovely is he going to be with a glow up?! People may die!" another joked.

"Worst kept secret since S3 ended! Now Gimmie Sophie!!" a third wrote, referencing Benedict's love interest from the books.

"I knew it from the beginning. So many innuendos about Benedict being the lead in S4 were given!" a fourth said. "It's the masquerade ball where he'll meet Sophie. Eloise promised to return from Scotland for the Lady Bridgerton's masquerade ball. Slay King!"

"OMG I'M FREAKING OUT!!! The masquerade, THE LAKE, SOPHIE, MY COTTAGE…AHHHHHH," one Instagram commenter and fan of the books wrote, while another added, "I screamed!"

Some, however, were sad that they would have to wait two years to watch the story unfold, "Damn... So fast with the announcement... And now I have to wait another 2 years for this but all G, masquerade ball... Here we go!"

"Ready to wait 2 years guys," another added.

"Yeah, two years from now, I think you need to speed it up maybe and release it in 2025 not 2026," someone else said.

"Y’all better drop the new season next year we can’t wait another 2 years 😑," another said.

Showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter in June that fans will have to wait two years to see what happens next to the Bridgerton family.

Bridgerton season four will be based on the third Bridgerton novel, An Offer From A Gentleman, where Benedict searches for a "lady in silver" after meeting her at a masquerade ball. It turns out the woman is the low-born Sophie Beckett.

Netflix confirmed that Benedict will fall for Sophie in the show's season four synopsis, which reads: "The fourth season of Bridgerton turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict (Luke Thompson). Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down—until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball."

In season three, Benedict ends his 'relationship' with Lady Tilley Arnold after she tells him she wants to be monogamous after they added her friend Paul into the mix.

"Benedict has always been a little lost — or free, depending on the way you want to look at it. But now he’s trying to find something a bit more solid in himself," Luke previously told Netflix's Tudum about his character.

After Benedict's season, the remaining Bridgerton siblings awaiting their turn to lead a season are Eloise, Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Gregory (Will Tilson) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
