Mother of the groom slammed after breaking unspoken wedding rule: 'Makes me vomit'

People were shocked by her decision and they took to social media to say so.

There’s one unwritten rule when it comes to weddings, and it’s rather simple: don’t wear white if you’re not the bride. Unfortunately, there are occasions when people deliberately break this rule.

One bride shared a snap from her wedding on Facebook, posing next to her husband and mother-in-law.

At first glance, you could easily mistake the groom's mother for the bride, as she was decked out in a full-length white dress, white cape and a fascinator. The bride, on the other hand, wore an off-the-shoulder ivory gown and held an elegant bouquet of flowers.

The photo gained traction on social media, with many criticising the mother-in-law’s “awful” outfit choice.

“Makes me vomit when I see mothers like this,” one person said.

“I cannot imagine doing this to any woman who decides to marry my son. Like, hon, I of all people know how difficult he can be to live with, may the old gods and the new bless you for your sacrifice,” another pointed out.

“I’m 99% sure this wasn’t bride-approved as it’s white & the bride’s dress is ever so slightly off-white. And the bride looks perfection!” a third said.

"Holy sh*t it's whiter than the brides gown," one person commented.

“Gotta love those double weddings!” another joked.

Some group members suggested creative ways the bride could have ‘accidentally’ ruined her mother-in-law’s dress.

“I wouldn't have been calm at all and she would have had to change. I'd make sure of it somehow, red wine, ink, dirt, even make-up, anything seriously,” one person admitted.

“So no Maid of Honour bestie with a glass of red [wine]? No way she should have made it to the pictures without someone spilling [something on the dress]. That poor girl,” another added.

“Would be beautiful with a splash of wine down the front,” a third agreed.

A different commenter suggested something slightly more dramatic writing, "Rat blood in a super soaker" next to the photo.

A few people offered handy hints as to what the bride could do to fix the problem, with photoshop being a common suggestion.

I would tell the photographer to edit it to another colour and not tell her beforehand," one person sneakily suggested. "Some that doesn't suit her, maybe."

Said another, "I would pay extra to have it photoshopped a different colour."

Another bride's nightmare mother-in-law story

A separate bride-to-be shared her ongoing saga involving her future mother-in-law in the comments. Apparently, her MIL also plans to wear white to her son's wedding.

“My fiancé’s mum keeps saying her dress 'is white with colourful floral embroidery’. That’s not how it works,” she wrote.

“She wants to wear HER wedding dress from her second wedding because [she says], ‘It doesn’t look like a wedding dress and [you're] not wearing white anyways’.”

She continued: “Her dress is ivory satin and lace, tea length with a halter top. Trust me, it looks like a wedding dress.”
