Mindy Kaling Was On Meghan Markle’s Cooking Show, Reports “She Blew Me Out Of The Water” And Harry “Knows His Way Around A Kitchen”

When Mindy Kaling joined Meghan Markle’s new cooking show as a guest recently, she found herself very impressed by the Duchess’ culinary skills.

Speaking to Deadline on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday, Kaling revealed her experience filming the show titled With Love, Meghan, set to premiere on Netflix January 15.

“I was just in my maternity leave and Meghan texted me and said, ‘Hey do you want to come be in my show and come to Montecito and have me cook for you?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah that sounds perfect, I would love to do that.’”

So the question is, what did she get to eat? “Well I think of myself as kind of an OK cook,” Kaling said, “but she unsurprisingly blew me out of the water. The thing about her recipes and being there was that it was just really accessible. She has a garden from scratch which I could never do, and chickens. They would probably all die if I tried to take care of chickens.”

Asked if the Duke of Sussex can cook like his wife, Kaling said, “Harry was there, but he didn’t cook for me. But I hear he’s actually a pretty good cook. He knows his way around a kitchen.”

Kaling was attending the Globes as a presenter alongside Kate Hudson, the star of Kaling’s upcoming Netflix show Running Point, which follows the family owners of a fictional LA basketball team The Waves, when Hudson’s character Isla Gordon takes over as company president. Both Kaling and Hudson serve as Eps in the show that also stars Scott MacArthur and Drew Tarver as Isla’s brothers, Max Greenfield as Isla’s fiancé and Brenda Song as The Waves’ chief of staff.

Kaling said of the show, “[Kate Hudson] is just do funny in it. We’re so happy. I created it with Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen and we’re just so lucky that Kate, who is a movie star, decided to do a sitcom, because she is my romantic comedy heroine and getting to write for her has been like a dream.”

Kaling is also a producer on Oscar shortlisted short film Anuja, which follows two young sisters working in a New Delhi garment factory, played by Sajda Pathan and Ananya Shanbhag. “It’s probably the most special project that I’m working on,” Kaling said. “It’s a beautiful short film that these two filmmakers Adam J. Graves and Suchitra Mattai shot in India. It’s about two young girls who literally work in a sweatshop. They have these very challenging circumstances, but it’s not grim, it’s so joyous and just a celebration of sisterhood. I cannot wait for people to see it, it’s really special.”
