Miley Cyrus Brings Sexy Pop Star Energy to 2025 Golden Globes, Her First Appearance Since 2009, in Cutout Gown
The singer is nominated for best original song
Miley Cyrus made an unforgettable entrance at the 2025 Golden Globes, her first trip to the award ceremony since 2009.
On Jan. 5, the singer, 32, arrived at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles in a stunning Celine by Hedi Slimane gown with embroidered cutouts and De Beers jewelry.
She fittingly had rock star eye makeup and also an updo with front-woman vibes, says hairstylist Bob Recine. “We wanted to create something that was custom but felt like a cross between Debbie Harry and Japanese cartoon characters, while still feeling undone and a little bit punk.”
The pro used a trio of Nexxue sprays — Prep & Protect Heat Defense Spray, Epic Shine Spray and XXL Volume Medium Hold Hairspray — to get the look.
Cyrus is nominated for best original song - motion picture for her new single “Beautiful That Way,” which was written and recorded for Gia Coppola’s film The Last Showgirl.
After the nomination was announced, the Disney alum thanked Pamela Anderson, who stars in the film, as well as Coppola, 37.
"It’s an honor to be nominated for Best Original Song alongside my friends and collaborators Andrew Wyatt and Lykke Li at the Golden Globes & Critics Choice Awards," Cyrus wrote on Instagram.
"Pamela is graciously sharing her moment with us. I am continuing to root for her; it’s so fun to watch her shine,” Cyrus wrote of Anderson, 57, who is nominated for her performance as Shelly, a Las Vegas dancer.
The star concluded the post saying, “Thank you Gia Coppola for inviting me to be a part of your gem The Last Showgirl.”
In February 2024, Cyrus won her first Grammy award, taking home both best pop solo performance and record of the year for her song "Flowers." The milestone also marked yet another home-run style moment for the star, who wore a dazzling archival gown from Bob Mackie's FW2002 collection to perform her hit track. The silver embellished design features a bralette and cut-out at the chest with asymmetric tassels swinging from the skirt.
Cyrus commemorated her pivotal year by purchasing the dress in an auction celebrating the fashion designer’s works. The "Hollywood Legends: Unmistakably Mackie" collection by Turner Classic Movies and Julien’s Auctions showcases Mackie’s iconic creations, with a portion of the sale going to the nonprofit MusicCares, which supports artists in need.

“This dress represents more than a performance — it’s a celebration of the relationship between music, artistry and glamour,” Cyrus said, per a press release. “This performance was a pivotal moment in my life and to have Bob Mackie’s support in securing it means the world to me.”
Mackie, 84, said of Cyrus, “Miley’s performance at the 2024 GRAMMY Awards marked an unforgettable moment in her career. As the designer of this dress, I couldn’t imagine it on anyone else. That girl was born to perform!”
Cyrus last attended the Golden Globes in 2009 when her track "I Thought I Lose You" was nominated for best original song - motion picture for the animated movie Bolt (she lost to Bruce Springsteen's song “The Wrestler" from the film of the same name). She walked the red carpet with her parents, mom Tish Cyrus and dad Billy Ray Cyrus.
For the event, a then-16-year-old Cyrus wore a strapless white gown with a sheer overlay and gold details, accessorizing with gold chandelier earrings. Her brown hair was styled into a glamorous half-up, half-down look with wavy face-framing pieces.
