Melissa Doyle's sweet reunion with former Sunrise co-stars: 'So nice'

Melissa Doyle had a heartwarming reunion with her former Sunrise colleagues Natalie Barr and David ‘Kochie’ Koch during an appearance on the Channel Seven breakfast show on Tuesday morning.

The TV presenter, who hosted Sunrise from 2002 to 2013, returned to Brekky Central to promote her new book titled 15 Seconds of Brave.

“Good morning! Big fan of the show!” she remarked, leaving all three stars in stitches.

“Oh thank goodness!” Nat replied, while Kochie welcomed her back to Sunrise.

Mel said it was a lovely feeling coming back to the studio and seeing plenty of familiar faces both behind and in front of the camera.

“It’s so nice walking in, I just feel like hugging and hugging and hugging,” she shared. “Anyway, lovely to be here. Thank you!”

The author went on to discuss her new book, which is a collection of eight stories about extraordinary people who each overcame huge struggles in their lives.

“You know, it’s been really hard the last few years for everybody, in different ways,” she said. “So many challenging degrees and everyone’s had to dig deep to find a way through something, and I just felt like it was the book I wanted to write at this time.

“All of the stories are very, very different, and I’m hoping that someone reading it will find even just one story and one little snippet in it that might help them and give them a bit of strength.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Melissa gave Nat and Kochie an update on her two children Nick, 21, and Talia, 18.

“[Talia] just finished her first year of uni, having a ball,” she shared. “Nick’s just started his third year of uni in the US, he’s having a ball.

“They’re both gorgeous, tall, healthy, happy. They’re lovely. How lucky are we!”

After working for Channel Seven for an impressive 25 years fronting Sunrise, Seven News, Today Tonight and Sunday Night, Mel left the network in 2020 due to Covid-19-related budget cuts.

She then presented the docuseries Australia Behind Bars on Channel Nine before returning to Seven earlier this year as the host of the revamped This Is Your Life.

The iconic show - which recounts the lives of popular celebrities, sports stars, politicians and high-achieving personalities - has been on and off the air since 1975 and was most recently hosted by Eddie McGuire in 2011.
