Maya Erskine’s Husband Michael Angarano Reveals His Dream Cameo on “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” Season 2

While the married ‘PEN15’ costars will likely not appear together in the sophomore season of the spy series, that didn’t stop them from dreaming up a role for Angarano

Michael Angarano is looking to score a cameo on wife Maya Erskine’s show!

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the 2025 Golden Globes, the Hollywood lovebirds jokingly discussed potential roles for Angarano, 37, for the second season Erskine’s spy series, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

“It would be nice to be a spy on the show,” said the PEN15 star — to which his wife, also 37, suggested that they could “fight each other.”

“It would be nice if you could kill me on the show,” responded the actor with a laugh.

While it seems that Angarano’s dream cameo did not come to fruition for the series’ sophomore season — which was renewed in May 2024, per Variety, with Deadline reporting that Anora's Mark Eydelshteyn is set to star — Erskine did reveal that her husband played a small part in the filming process, standing in for her costar, Donald Glover.

“He did help with one of the scenes because Donald couldn’t be there that day and he helped read off camera for me,” the actress said on the red carpet.

But when she was pressed for more information about what fans can expect in season 2, the Emmy-nominee was as tight-lipped as she could muster. “Don’t ask me because I can’t hold secrets,” joked Erskine. “I can’t say anything, but I think it’s gonna be even better than the first [season] — that’s all I’ll say.”

Angarano and Erksine first met when the actress was in talks to star in Sacramento, which was directed by Angarano. They also worked together when Erksine incorporated her husband-to-be into the cast of the Hulu series PEN15, she told Vulture in February 2024.

The duo went Instagram official after both earning Emmy nominations in 2019, Angarano for guest starring on This Is Us while Erksine was for writing on the Hulu comedy. While attending the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, they shared a cute photo of them at the ceremony together.

“ohhh look who it is sitting right behind me completely randomly at an awards show in which we were both nominated who i also happen to be in love with 😭❤️💨,” the actor captioned his post. Sharing the same photo, Erskine wrote: “Look who was sitting right in front of me. I ❤️ you.”

In November 2020, the pair surprised fans by announcing that they were expecting their first child together — and that they had gotten engaged. "And then there were 3... also, we're engaged,” Angarano captioned an Instagram photo of he and his then-fiancé holding her baby bump.

They welcomed a baby boy, Leon Frederick, in May 2021. And then, in September 2024, they welcomed a baby daughter.

While they never officially announced their wedding, Erskine openly referred to Angarano as her husband while doing press for the first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in February 2024.

“I love that you and your husband are such a normal Hollywood couple because he was just taking pictures of you as you walked up here,” Entertainment Tonight said on the Golden Globes red carpet, prompting Erskine to say, “We’re normal.”

“Like, I’m here being like, ‘Oh my God, that’s Isabella Rossellini,' ” the actress continued, noting her fangirl tendencies.
