Sad Deborra-Lee Furness claim resurfaces as Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster confirm romance

After months of speculation about the true nature of their relationship, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster were photographed holding hands while out on a date in Santa Monica. The pair looked happy as they strolled down the street, seemingly confirming what many have suspected for some time - that they are officially a couple.

The sighting comes more than a year after Hugh and his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness shocked the world and ended their 27-year marriage in 2023. The couple, who had been known as one of Hollywood's rare success stories, share children Oscar Maximilian Jackman, 24; and daughter Ava Eliot Jackman, 19.

Now that Broadway stars Hugh and Sutton appear to have soft-launched their relationship, a three-year-old interview from Deborra-Lee discussing the show the new couple worked together on has resurfaced.

In 2022, as Hugh and Sutton’s revival of The Music Man opened on Broadway, Deborra-Lee explained to People how she’d taken a very active role in the show’s pre-production and would have replaced Sutton as her at-the-time husband’s leading lady “in a pinch”.

When asked about helping Hugh rehearse and prepare for the role, Deborra-Lee said: “Yeah we do everything together.”

As the reporter then quizzed if she would take over from Sutton if needed, the actress and producer replied: “In a pinch. You'd have to push me onto the stage. It would be terrifying but in a pinch.”

The star’s comments now feel particularly poignant following recent reports that Deborra-Lee was reportedly “suspicious” of Hugh’s 20-year friendship with Sutton as they started working together on the show in 2022, according to the Daily Mail.

Two months after Deborra-Lee’s interview, Sutton and Hugh gushed about each other on Late Night with Seth Myers with Sutton saying she was having “the time of her life” and that it was “a dream come true” to work alongside Hugh.

Meanwhile, Hugh said of Sutton: “This is a six-time Tony nominee, two-time winner ... I've watched everything she's done.”

Rumours first started swirling about Hugh and Sutton's relationship in the second half of 2024, with a source telling Page Six that the pair were "in love" and inseparable but had been careful to stay out of the public eye.

The speculation intensified in October 2024 after Deborah liked a post uploaded by Tasha Lustig, in which the UK pop culture reporter spoke about the rumoured relationship between Hugh and Sutton and said that Furness had allegedly been "blindsided".

Deborra-Lee's friend British media personality Amanda de Cadenet responded by writing, "You are on point with this one. My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment fyi!”
