MasterChef fans call to 'ban' popular kitchen appliance in future seasons
Viewers have revealed what they want to see changed next year.
MasterChef fans have demanded that the cooking competition bans contestants from using one of the show’s most popular kitchen appliances in future seasons.
One viewer took to social media this week to share their list of suggestions for season 16, including that they think the use of the hibachi should be limited.
The hibachi is a traditional Japanese charcoal grill that has become increasingly popular on the reality show in recent years.
“Idea for next season… Why don’t they make each week themed so contestants all have to cook Asian or Italian or Indian etc that way it would test adaptability and creativeness not always cooking same same,” they wrote.
“And BAN the use hibachi at least for most of the season or have Hibachi week only. I think I remember last season everyone was smoking. There is always a new fad, what will it be next year?”

While some fans agreed that this year’s season hasn’t featured a strong mix of cuisines or cooking styles, a majority of people disagreed that the hibachi should be banned.
“I fail to understand why some people have such a problem with the hibachi,” one person replied. “It is just a means of cooking over coals and flame. It is not easy.”
“Banning the hibachi is ridiculous. It’s just a cooking instrument. Same as saying ban the oven or stovetop,” another added.
“It takes time to be able to master a hibachi so I believe and I say no to banning it, it’s no different to an oven, stove or a barbecue so do you want them banned also,” a third shared.
Other fan suggestions
This comes after one fan shared a post on Reddit proposing that there should be a “limit” on how many times the contestants can cook a certain style of dish or cuisine throughout the competition.
“Due to intense piscine and parfait fatigue, Thai curry overload and chronic hibachi usage, would it maybe be an idea to put a few limits on how many times a certain protein or particular implement or cooking style can be used in next season’s shows?” the user wrote.
“Certainly make life more interesting for us viewers and perhaps test the competitors' culinary invention a little more than seems to be happening.”

Others also suggested the show includes challenges where the contestants are tasked with cooking vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, low-carb or low-fat recipes to make them think outside the box.
There are currently just three contestants left on season 15, with Brent Draper, Declan Cleary and Rhiannon Anderson battling it out to take home $250,000.
