MasterChef fans call for surprising new rule next season: 'Interesting'

Viewers have shared what they want changed about the cooking competition.

With just two weeks left before this year’s season of MasterChef ends, viewers have suggested the reality show implement a surprising new rule for future seasons to make things “more interesting”.

Taking to Reddit on Thursday, one fan proposed there should be a “limit” on how many times the contestants can cook a certain style of dish or cuisine throughout the competition.

“Due to intense piscine and parfait fatigue, Thai curry overload and chronic hibachi usage, would it maybe be an idea to put a few limits on how many times a certain protein or particular implement or cooking style can be used in next season’s shows?” the user wrote.

“Certainly make life more interesting for us viewers and perhaps test the competitors' culinary invention a little more than seems to be happening.”

It wasn’t long before a number of other viewers took to the comments to suggest changes they’d also like to see in the series.

“I’d like to see contestants asked to create vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, low-carb or low-fat recipes,” one person replied. “They may not enjoy cooking that style but dietary choices/restrictions are pretty common when you cook professionally. I think it could be an interesting challenge.”

“Sugar-free dessert challenges would be really fun. Or maybe a gluten-free challenge with dishes that would normally have gluten,” another added. “And honestly we need to see the contestants be a little more uncomfortable. Let them grow through that. That's where the magic usually comes out.”

'They used to be great'

Someone else also proposed next year’s season has a week in the middle of the competition designed to take the cooks out of their comfort zones.

“I'd actually like to maybe have a ‘challenge’ week,” they shared. “I remember The Voice had it before, and contestants sang songs they normally wouldn't have and it was interesting to see.

“Like the whole week they cook things they haven't before and aren't to cook anything within their style.”

“I like that idea,” one fan remarked. “Also, I'd love them to bring back a redemption dish round. They used to be great, judges choose from their stuff ups and challenge them to try again.”

There are currently just five contestants left on season 15, with Brent Draper, Cath Collins, Declan Cleary, Rhiannon Anderson and Theo Loizou battling it out to take home $250,000.
