MasterChef Australia star's mysterious throwback snaps hint at sad breakup

Following the devastating death of MasterChef Australia judge Jock Zonfrillo and the departure of Melissa Leong, the popular cooking competition was tasked with finding new judges who could step into the roles and be embraced by viewers and contestants alike. With Andy Allen the only remaining judge in the lineup, former contestant Poh Ling Yeow, acclaimed chef Jean-Christophe Novelli and food journalist Sofia Levin joined the judging crew.

The response from fans has been largely positive with many praising the new faces for their warmth and expertise in the cooking competition. Sofia, in particular, has been complimented by viewers for "fitting in like a glove" and being a "breath of fresh air."

While Sofia has dedicated her life to food, eating and uncovering the most spectacular culinary delights the world has to offer, her Instagram account hints that there may have been some heartache in her past - making her even more of a relatable queen than she already is.

The 34-year-old food writer and avid traveller's Instagram is a must-follow for anyone who wants to feel simultaneously ravenous and envious, but scrolling back through Sofia's gallery seemingly reveals a sad turn of events in her glamorous life. While little is known about her love life, it would seem that Sofia was married at one time to Epic Pizza owner Matt Johns, but the pair appear to have parted ways sometime in 2021.

Sofia appears to have once been married

Several throwback snaps show Sofia and Matt having incredible adventures together and also caring for their cute-as-a-button toy poodle Jinkee - who has a cool 66k followers on Instagram!

One post from May 2016 announced the couple's engagement with Sofia captioning the post, "One proposal, two countries, three weeks & countless meals later — I said yes to a lifetime of sharing adventures. 💍"

Another post from September 2017 suggests the attractive couple actually tied the knot with Sofia sharing photos from a pre-wedding celebration with the caption, "Celebrated a birthday and a pre-wedding this weekend before we fly OS for the festivities. The civil ceremony team let us sneak in @lifeofjinkee as our ring bearer, @pzzagrrrl flew across the world to surprise me, @matt_john schemed with the @cumulusinc team to turn a casual dinner into something that passed as an actual wedding and I schemed with @benshewry to surprise Matt back the following night at @atticamelbourne.

"Completely blissed out and overwhelmed. And only 9 sleeps until we fly to Lombok! Thank you to everyone who made it special, but especially to my perfect match for always keeping me on my toes ❤️"

Photos suggest sad split

However, no wedding photos from Lombok can be found on her grid, and, while the apparent exes still follow each other on Instagram, Matt has not made an appearance in her gallery since 2019.

In another telling move, photos shared from a Melbourne restaurant round-up in November 2021 show Sofia clearly minus the gorgeous engagement ring she had previously sported in her snaps.

Who is Sofia Levin's partner now?

Although Sofia and Matt's romance may not have lasted, eagle-eyed fans might have noticed that the MasterChef judge seems to have a new boo in her life, with the fun-loving foodie sharing a couple of sneaky pics to her Instagram of their travels and, of course, the incredible meals they have shared.

In one carousel, Sofia and her partner can be seen taking a cute mirror selfie in Athens, Greece (seriously, can we please trade lives, sis!) and in another, they are enjoying what sounds like the best meal anyone could have in Paris (hello, 1.1kg côte de boeuf!). Another sweet series of snaps shows the cute couple enjoying some birthday celebrations together in France.

"I never thought I’d be comfortable sharing a birthday celebration, but it turns out that two September babies are far better than one at @maisonstroisgros in Roanne, France," Sofia wrote in part of her caption.

So, who is the handsome chap that has won the heart of the gorgeous MasterChef judge? According to our sleuthing, his name is Will Dyer and he runs a wine-importing company called La Carta Wines (true love AND free wine? Sofia is winning at life). It would appear that Will has also dabbled in some music, releasing an EP in 2022 called OOPS under the stage name Billy Peril.

Sounds like they are a match made in heaven and we love to see it!
