MAFS' Patrick weighs in on claims 'wife' Belinda dated 73-year-old

Earlier this month, photos surfaced of Married At First Sight's Belinda Vickers which left many with questions over her claims she had never dated anyone before going on the show.

Belinda, who is 'married' to Patrick Dwyer on the show, confessed to the cameras she had "never had a relationship before", also adding, "I've never had a boyfriend."

However, Megan Pustetto, host of So Dramatic! Podcast claims that Belinda did actually have a boyfriend before going on the show and he was a little bit older than her.

Apparently, Belinda had been dating 73-year-old Martin De Bono since 2019 and they broke up just before she applied to go on the show.

The pair reportedly met at Melbourne club Cloud 9, where De Bono worked.

Now Patrick has cleared the air, revealing he knew about this so-called relationship.

Chatting with The Hit Network's Bec, Cosi and Lehmo, Patrick laughed off the rumours.

"No, no, no! That's all been blown out of proportion, so that was not her boyfriend, at all," he laughed. "There were just some photos online and some people have been putting two and two together, which isn't true at all.

"But, look, that's what you have to deal with, don't you? When you go on a show like this there's always going to be stuff coming out."

When asked if he could say for sure that Belinda had never been romantically involved with the man, Patrick said, "I didn't know Belinda back then! I can't say... It's none of my business either, but was it a relationship? Absolutely not."

The hosts then questioned whether Belinda is actually the shy girl she presents herself to be, or if she's more of a party girl after photos of the reality star showed her clubbing, looking worlds away from the girl we see on TV.

Patrick defended his 'wife', telling the hosts, "I'm sure, again, I didn't know Belinda back then, but I went and partied when I was younger too!"

"That was years ago, and that's what she liked to do - hang out with friends and go to clubs."

Sources close to Belinda have also told New Idea she and the bouncer were "no more than friends" and that the pair "would often hang out, but it was not a relationship".

Meanwhile, Patrick's ex-girlfriend Natika Stanley has also revealed he isn't quite being portrayed very truthfully either.

Speaking with The Wash, Natika said Patrick is really the opposite of what is being shown, but not in a negative way.

The pair dated from 2014 to 2015 and were in a long-distance relationship with Patrick making a lot of effort to make it work.

"Patrick and I dated on-and-off for two years, he was my best friend above all. He’s definitely not as awkward or inexperienced as the show makes him out to be.

"He can be extremely sweet and respectful. He used to drive 8 hours [from Melbourne] to Wollongong to surprise me.

"He would wait outside my work while I worked 8 hours and once surprised me with a ring."

Patrick and Belinda are believed to still be together and have been spotted together by fans of the show.
