Man Goes Above and Beyond for His Sister's Baby Shower. Then She Disinvites Him
One Reddit user seeks advice after his contribution to his sister's lavish baby shower backfires when she disinvites him from the event
One man in his late 30s is seeking advice from the Reddit community after he and his sister had a falling out over the scope of her baby shower.
The story began when the man’s youngest sister announced her pregnancy after a long journey to conceive. Excited for her, he and his other sister offered to assist with the baby shower. However, the gesture soon led to unexpected complications.
“For some reason, she took that as ‘my brother said he would pay for the baby shower’ and drafted a guest list of 120 people,” the man explains in the post. Despite never agreeing to foot the entire bill, the man took on numerous responsibilities to help make the shower a success.
In an effort to get plans rolling, he created the digital invites and registration site, booked the venue, offered to make centerpieces and agreed to pick up the food on the day of the event. He even committed to purchasing a stroller as a gift. His husband also volunteered to organize games for the shower.

But things began to change when the pregnant sister became increasingly demanding. The final straw was when she sent him a text message criticizing his efforts, stating, “I’m disappointed by how much work you’ve put into this shower.”

In response, the man began to list all of his contributions and expressed his surprise at the scale of the shower. “I don’t know much about them but I assumed they were intimate events in someone’s home and not something the size of a wedding,” the poster explains. “I had less people at my own wedding.”
The situation further escalated after the pregnant sister began to complain to other family members about the lack of support she was receiving. She even questioned their mother about her contributions to the shower. “My 70-year old retired mother was taken aback by that comment and offered to cook food for 120 people,” he states.
Following the argument between the expectant mother and her family, she took drastic measures — and disinvited her brother. “She’s been so ungrateful throughout this entire process and has since uninvited me to her shower and sarcastically said ‘enjoy your 40th’ and removed me from my sibling group chat,” he notes.
The experience has left the poster hurt, and seeking advice on how he should proceed.
Many Reddit users sided with the man, saying his sister was being unreasonable. “You did more than most people would do. Nobody needs 120 people at a baby shower or a hall for it,” writes one user. Another suggests, “If you are uninvited, pull back your deposit and contributions. Her expectations are unreasonable.”
