MAFS: Insider reveals truth behind Carolina and Daniel's shock entrance

Married At First Sight’s latest commitment ceremony will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the most iconic reality TV moments of all time, with Carolina Santos and Daniel Holmes finally revealing their affair to the experts and fellow participants by storming into the room hand in hand.

However, it now appears that there was a lot more to the pair’s untimely return to the experiment than viewers were made aware of during Sunday night's explosive episode.

A source tells Yahoo Lifestyle that the couple, who first began having secret meet-ups after Daniel’s partner Jessica Seracino abruptly left the experiment a fortnight ago, actually wanted to own up to their romance earlier in the season.

“Carolina and Daniel had been asking producers if they could come clean for two weeks before the commitment ceremony, but were advised not to,” the insider claims.

The source adds that the relationship wasn’t actually a secret behind the scenes as the crew obviously had to facilitate their private dates, and it’s believed that the experts were also made aware of it.

While it appeared on TV that Carolina and Daniel arrived at the commitment ceremony without warning, the insider also reports that they actually arrived hours earlier.

They claim that producers kept the pair in a separate building until pushing them in at the perfect moment for maximum drama, and they were already mic’d up but the producers ran into the shot purely to build drama.

The source continues: “Daniel and Carolina were actually made to wait in a tent in the car park outside the commitment ceremony so other participants did not see them before they were escorted to a second building.”

'We are genuine and real'

Carolina and Daniel left the cast stunned on Sunday night when they walked into the commitment ceremony during Olivia Frazer and Jackson Lonie’s couch session and announced their romance to the world.

Despite the other brides and grooms expressing their disgust for the pair’s actions, Daniel asked the experts if he and Carolina could stay on the show.

“At the end of the day, we all came here to meet someone, develop feelings and fall in love, and obviously the both of us didn't get that with who we were initially matched with,” he said.

“We are genuine and real about this experiment and how we feel about each other. So yes, there's a part of us that would like to continue to experiment together.”

The group of participants ended up walking out of the room in protest before relationship expert John Aiken asserted that there was “absolutely no way” that they could re-enter the experiment as a new couple.

“This betrayal is incredibly unsettling and difficult for all of us to witness, and we don't see any merit for this relationship that you have to continue on in this experiment,” he said.

“We could not live with ourselves to put such an unhealthy dynamic back in this experiment.”

Married At First Sight airs at 7pm on Sunday and 7:30pm on Monday to Wednesday on Channel Nine and 9Now.
