MAFS' Jono calls out major 'editing fail' with his step-sister Steph

‘Don’t believe everything you see.’

Married At First Sight’s Jonathan ‘Jono’ McCullough has called out the reality show for the way his step-sister Steph was portrayed at his wedding to Lauren Dunn.

During Sunday night’s episode, Steph was shown looking less than impressed with Lauren’s behaviour and bizarre comments and questioned whether she was the right fit for her step-brother.

“Lauren is definitely going to give him a run for his money,” she said during her piece-to-camera interview. “She’s still at the point of wanting to go out and partying.

“He knows what he’s here for and if it’s not right, he’ll walk away.”

While the episode suggested Steph wasn’t a fan of Lauren - especially when she acknowledged the cross Steph was wearing around her neck and chanted, “Jesus and cleavage!” - Jono has since revealed that things were very different during filming.

The 39-year-old groom said on The Pulse with Seany B & Emma G on Monday morning that Steph and Lauren “actually got along really well” and the episode made his step-sister appear much more “judgmental” than she was in real life.

“She made one comment about, ‘Oh I’m not sure Lauren is ready to settle down yet’, and [the producers] just jumped on it. And they took facial expressions from one [scene] and put it in another,” he detailed.

"Lauren would say stuff and Steph would laugh her a** off, and they made it look like she was really disappointed in how crude Lauren’s humour was or something when she loves it and is probably on the same page with Lauren when it comes to that sort of humour.”

'They had to find some drama'

Jono went on to offer a strong piece of advice for viewers tuning into the rest of the season: “Don’t believe everything you see”.

“I think our wedding was just so much fun and everyone got along, they had to find some drama and that’s what they ran with,” he added.

Meanwhile, fan-favourite bride Lauren told the radio hosts that she believes the way she has been portrayed so far is “exactly” how she is in real life.

“I knew that people were either going to have a good reaction to me or a very strong bad reaction, so I was very prepared,” she shared. “What you’ve seen so far is just honestly how I am, so take it or leave it!”
