MAFS' Carolina reveals why she really went on the show: 'A bit silly'

Married At First Sight star Carolina Santos has revealed the real reason why she signed up to appear on this year’s season of the Channel Nine reality series.

The 34-year-old, who entered the show as an intruder and was paired with Dion Giannarelli, admitted during an Instagram Q&A this week that she wanted to boost her online business Designer Bag Hire.

When asked by a follower if she went on the show to find love because she seems “very genuine”, Carolina delivered a candid response.

“No, I did not,” she replied. “The main reason for me was a bit of exposure for my business.”

However, the mother-of-one added that she did have hope in the back of her mind that she would be a part of “that one couple that works out”.

“You can’t help but fantasise about it and be like, oh you know, how cute would it be to have my very own fairytale on television,” she said. “There was hope there because at the end of the day, who wants to be single at 33?

“So I did and still do want to find love and want to find my forever person. But in saying that, I did not go on MAFS with the only purpose of finding love. I think that you have to be pretty naïve and pretty silly to go on MAFS with the only purpose of finding love. Because when you look at the success rate from previous seasons, it makes no sense.”

Despite being ‘married’ to Dion on the show, Carolina quickly struck up a romance with fellow intruder Daniel Holmes during filming. The pair caused controversy with their relationship as they went on a number of secret dates behind the other participants’ backs, but proved their haters wrong when they stayed together for a few months after the show ended.

It wasn’t until August that Daniel revealed that they had gone their separate ways, although they have recently been spotted hanging out again.

Across nine seasons of Married At First Sight, the show has only managed to produce a handful of success stories including season two’s Erin Bateman and Bryce Mohr, season six’s Martha Kalifatidis and Michael Brunelli and Jules Robinson and Cameron Merchant, and season eight’s Kerry Knight and Johnny Balbuziente and Melissa Rawson and Bryce Ruthven.
