The Block's Maddy and Charlotte called out for 'ultimate no-no' in bedroom: 'Don't do this'
EXCLUSIVE: Interior designer Chris Carroll has urged viewers not to replicate this at home.
The Block’s newcomers Maddy and Charlotte had their very first room reveal in Sunday night’s episode and received quite a mixed response from judges and viewers alike. The Sydney-based sisters joined the competition last week after Paige and Jesse quit the show, making history as the first team to enter at the halfway point.
The judges were thrilled that they managed to complete their main bedroom and walk-in-robe in just five days, with Shaynna Blaze calling the feat “insane” and Darren Palmer describing their abilities as “absolutely amazing”. “This is just such a fantastic result for the constraints they had,” he added.
Marty Fox also said their beige-on-beige colour palette was “elevated”, but they received criticism for their styling and room proportions and ultimately received a score of 24.5.

It appears one major detail went unnoticed by the judges, however, with Chris Carroll, director of TLC Interiors, telling Yahoo Lifestyle that Maddy and Charlotte had a huge flaw in the room that viewers shouldn’t replicate.
“The sheer curtains pooling on the floor is the ultimate window covering no-no. Please don't anybody do this at home,” he remarks.
He went on to share that while beige-on-beige is a great colour palette, it needs “a lot of layers and textures to prevent it from feeling sterile and cold”.
“Overall, the room felt a little undercooked,” he adds. “The products were lovely, but the scale of them was a bit small and the bed styling didn't feel sophisticated.”
Courtney and Grant's bedroom deemed 'completely overwhelming'
Speaking about the other contestants’ main bedrooms, Chris argues that House 5’s Kristian and Mimi should have taken out the win by themselves. The newlyweds tied for first place with House 2’s Courtney and Grant on 28 points and split the $10,000 prize money.
“Kristian and Mimi's room, though not perfect, was far more successful than Courtney and Grant’s,” Chris says.
“The visual chaos in Courtney and Grant's bedroom was completely overwhelming. There's literally no pocket in the room where you can rest your eyes. It felt more like a retail showroom than a calming bedroom to relax in. Far too many elements at play.”
Kylie and Brad's bold move 'doesn't work'
Meanwhile, Chris believes Kylie and Brad’s copper wallpaper on the bedroom ceiling was a bold choice that didn’t pay off.
“The copper wallpaper doesn't work in the space,” he shares. “It and the black walls not only compete for your attention, but they're telling two different stories.
“The black is giving earthy cabin vibes and the copper is a retro throwback to a Las Vegas hotel suite. Definitely not delivering harmony. Without the copper, the room would feel a lot more resolved. It was heading in a good direction without the ceiling treatment.”
Fans weigh in on controversial wallpaper
A majority of viewers seemed to agree that Kylie and Brad’s bedroom didn’t quite hit the mark this week, despite finishing in second place by just half a point.
“How do you sleep at night in that room? So busy and an eyesore. Yikes!” one person commented, while another added, “Bad vibes in this space… confused unbalanced awkward”.

“I couldn’t handle seeing that gold ceiling every day… it’s a pass from me,” a third remarked, followed by a different user who said, “No no no no no no no! Just can’t find anything to like here and the rest of the rooms are a struggle too”.
“This room looks like something from Studio 54 but not in a nice way. This is a holiday home, not an excuse to ask ‘WWBD’ - What would Beetlejuice do?” someone else joked.
