Home and Away fans turn on main character after 'childish' act: 'Can’t stand her'

“Don't care if he is Flick's brother. Cash doesn't deserve the way she treats him. She’s a rude, spoiled brat."

Home and Away fans have turned on Felicity Newman, with many saying the feisty character is reminiscent of when she was first introduced. Felicity, who is played by Jacqui Purvis, caused a bit of a storm when she first moved to Summer Bay – with a reputation as a party girl who danced on bars and had eyes only for Tane Parata (Ethan Browne).

Now, she has a failed marriage under her belt after lying to Tane about wanting to get pregnant and has finally moved on. She’s now involved in a steamy romance with bad boy Rory Templeton (Joshua Orpin) who is part of the River Boys gang.

Her brother, Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright), has been trying to tell Felicity that the River Boys are bad news and she should ditch Rory, but the stubborn character refuses to listen. Fans are frustrated with Felicity’s actions, with some calling her “childish” and “pathetic”.

“I think Felicity is fast becoming a very unliked character,” one person wrote in a Facebook fan group.

“Yep, [she’s] going back to her old ways. Can’t stand her actually,” another replied.

“I love Flick – one of my favourite characters – but do agree that she is acting very stupid again. Jumping headfirst into this relationship with Rory without thinking and ignoring all the warning signs. I just hope Rory doesn’t screw her over. I also think she reverts back to her party girl persona to appear confident and carefree as a coping mechanism from all her past traumas,” a third remarked.

“The writers just really have it in for Flick. Why do characters like Mack and Tane get everything they want no matter how awful they are, but Flick is always made miserable?” another added.

Others pointed out that Cash is always trying to take care of Felicity and she tends to lash out at him. Considering he’s previously been shot on the job and deals with lots of criminal behaviour in Summer Bay, it makes sense he’s nervous about the River Boys.

“Don't care if he is Flick's brother. Cash doesn't deserve the way she treats him. She’s a rude, spoiled brat,” one fan declared.

“Cash may be a bit overprotective towards Flick but geez she is lucky to have a brother who cares so much about her,” another agreed. “He drops everything if she needs him, even as far as neglecting his own relationship. Flick on the other hand speaks to him like a dog.”

“[Cash] has only ever looked out for her well-being. Always rushed to her side when he knew she was upset. He's always been there for her,” a third chimed in.

“I know Cash is trying to look out for her but he can be overprotective and he pushes too hard and so then she pushes back even more. She knows Rory is a River Boy and has a criminal past – she might be making the wrong decision with him – guess we’ll have to see how his storyline plays out but even if it is, it’s her decision to make,” another said.

There are rumours Jacqui will be leaving the show shortly as she was seen spotted filming in March this year, but has since been absent from the set out at Palm Beach. Since the show films approximately five to six months in advance, it’s possible her final scenes will air around August.

While some characters leave Summer Bay by moving overseas, leaving the door open to a return in the future, Jacqui previously told Yahoo Lifestyle she wanted the complete opposite for Felicity’s exit.

So, could this mean the character will be killed off? Considering she’s mixed up with some dodgy criminals, Felicity could be meeting a “gory death”.

SHOP:

“[I’d want to be] killed off. I want a really dramatic death, like a really, intense, gory, like everyone’s crying [death],” Jacqui said in 2022.

“[This job] is an actor’s dream. And having a consistent job is very rare in this industry. But to know if I’m going to stay on [the show], I have no idea. We’ll have to see where everyone feels in the future.”
