Home and Away fans share their favourite IRL encounters with stars
Turns out Alf isn't as grumpy IRL as he is in the Bay.
Home and Away fans have taken to a Facebook fan page to share their experiences with meeting the actors in real life, spilling who their favourite and least favourite IRL encounters have been.
While the old saying "never meet your heroes" can sometimes ring true, the Facebook thread was overwhelmingly positive, with many Home and Away fans agreeing that the people they've meet in real life have lived up to expectations.
While Alf (Ray Meagher) may be the grumpy grandpa in Summer Bay with a heart of gold, in real life one fan described meeting him as "awesome".
"Meeting Alf was awesome! He was sitting directly behind me at breakfast at the Park Hyatt Canberra. I still remember my wife saying to me, 'Now I want stay very calm but please slowly turn around..' We had a great chat!" the fan shared
Others praised Lynne McGranger (Irene) and Emily Symons (Marilyn). "I enjoyed meeting Lynne and Emily, and Dan Ewing (Heath)," one person shared. But according to this fan, not all the Braxtons were created equal. "I wasn't keen on Stephen Peacocke or Lincoln Younes," they ended their comment with.

Lynne got another shoutout, alongside her dear friend, the late Johnny Ruffo. "Johnny Ruffo and Lynne McGranger at a DMD fundraiser many years ago, loved them both xx," the fan said.
One lucky fan even shared an experience of partying with the cast. "I have met 20 of the cast from Home and Away and I have to say they’re pretty funny when you have a night out with them," they said, though no further juicy details were spilt.
Other fans shared the names of actors who have now left the Bay but clearly made memorable impressions. "My daughter has met Ryan Kwanten [who played Vinnie Patterson back in the '00s] and says he’s a lovely person," one person shared. "I have met a lot of them, up until about 2008: at signings, Logies, Good Friday Appeals in Melbourne and just around in general. I really like Tim Campbell who played Dan Baker, Leah's second husband," someone else said.
