Largest Spy Operation in WW2 Exposed in New Documentary ‘Recording Evil,’ Based on Declassified British Intelligence Documents (EXCLUSIVE)
“Recording Evil,” a landmark documentary project exposing the largest spy operation in World War II, has started filming across three continents.
The documentary was commissioned by Israel’s Public Broadcaster, KAN 11, to mark the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Told through tens of thousands declassified British intelligence documents, “Recording Evil” reveals the candid conversations of Nazi officers and soldiers held as prisoners of war during WWII. Unaware of hidden listening devices in British internment facilities, the prisoners spoke freely about their involvement in the Holocaust providing unfiltered accounts that provide details that have never before been made public.

Filming is currently underway at multiple historical locations across the U.K., including facilities and archives where the original Nazi prisoner recordings were made and stored. The doc will also shoot in Germany, in the U.S. and Israel, were leading researchers and historians have spent years analyzing the archive comprising over 150,000 transcribed pages.
“Recording Evil” is directed by Danny Liber and Yaron Niski, whose latest production “Carlos the Jackal” is currently airing on Kan and BBC’s Storyville.
“In an era where Holocaust denial and antisemitism are on the rise globally, “Recording Evil” represents a crucial contribution to historical truth,” said Gili Fried-Gaon, head of documentary at KAN 11. “These never-before-heard testimonies, captured in real-time and without filtration, provide unprecedented insight into one of humanity’s darkest chapters. As the public broadcaster it is our duty to bring this important project to Israeli and international audiences as part of our commitment to preserving historical memory.”
The documentary will premiere on KAN 11 in May, and it will be available as both a feature film and three-part series. It represents the first time these secret transcripts, sealed for six decades in British archives, will be brought to screen in such detail.
“Recording Evil” is produced by T.H. Productions, one of Israel’s leading independent production companies, whose credits include “The Pianist from Ramallah”, “Colombia – The Tragic Loss” and executive produced by former Yes Studios boss Danna Stern, the award-winning producer of “Supernova: The Music Festival Massacre” and “The Devil Next Door.”
“The raw, uncensored nature of these recordings provides a unique historical document,” said Udi Zamberg, T.H Productions founder and project co-creator. “For the first time, we are exposed to the perpetrators expressing themselves freely, without the self-censorship that characterized post-war testimonies,” Zamberg continued.
Liber, a co-director and co-producer on the project, is also the creator of the acclaimed series “Enemies,” while Niski is known for his work with James Cameron on “Atlantis Rising” for National Geographic, and the Samuel L Jackson-led series “Enslaved” for Epix.
