It’s been two and a half months since The Kyle and Jackie O Show launched in Melbourne and it appears Victorians haven’t quite adjusted to the Sydney-based radio hosts’ unique broadcasting style. Not only has the show struggled in the ratings against its long-standing competitors and currently sits in sixth position, but listeners have also expressed their distaste on social media.

One woman went viral on TikTok earlier this week calling out the radio show for discussing X-rated content during the breakfast shift. The listener said she was “appalled” when she heard hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson talking about producer Lachy Mansell’s recent date with an OnlyFans model and what went on in the bedroom.

“Kyle and Jackie O, what the actual hell did I just listen to at 9:45 on a Monday morning?” she remarked. “I just got in the car at 9:45 in the morning, my radio was on KIIS or whatever the f**k they are, and they were talking so disgustingly about blow jobs, going down on a girl. What the actual s**t did I just listen to?”

The young mum continued: “If I had a child in the car, I would be appalled. Any child can access this at home [or] in the car and that is literally like, in my head, R-rated pornography on the f**king radio.

“I’m sorry, but that is revolting. I had to turn it off because I was like, I don’t need to listen to this at 9:45 in the morning… I am actually shocked. I was like, covering my mouth while I was driving going, ‘What the f**k is going on?’. Anyone else? Because I am just shook.”

The video received plenty of comments from social media users who felt the same way, with one person writing: “I think Kyle and Jackie O have become quite vulgar, and I'm not a prude either.”

“I used to love Kyle and Jackie O, but I just don't find them funny any more. I can't listen to the filth they go on with so you are not alone!” another shared.

“Had it happen at 8:30 while taking kids to school and wrote to the station. It’s only gotten worse,” a third replied, followed by someone else who said, “I heard this too last week! Driving my kids to school so it was 8:50am… the questions I got from them were very difficult to answer. Not listening to them anymore I avoid the channel! Not okay.”

“I like Kyle and Jackie O but there’s a time and a place for some of their topics and that is definitely not on radio during ‘family friendly’ times in the car. Should be podcast only,” a different user commented.

Kyle and Jackie O addressed the social media backlash on Thursday morning, with Kyle admitting that the show was on the “wrong trajectory” in Melbourne.

“We’re not for everyone,” he said, to which Jackie replied, “No, definitely not”.

While Kyle said he didn’t care about the woman’s criticism and questioned why she was “so shook”, Jackie was much more sympathetic and said she understood why people might be surprised by the content on their radio show.

“It’s kind of like, because [Melbourne listeners] are not used to it, it’d be like watching The Project one night and then suddenly Waleed [Aly] turns to Tommy Little and goes, ‘So I fingered this chick on the weekend, went down on her’,” she remarked. “It would be like, ‘Oh my god, what am I watching?’. It would be shocking because you’re not used to it.”

“It wouldn’t be shocking enough for me to go on my socials and feign outrage,” Kyle responded. “Mothers in Melbourne wearing Kmart jumpers are no fans of ours. Oh well, never mind.”
