Well, friends, it has finally happened - the warmer weather has finally begun, rendering all of our threats to 'move to the sun' as empty as they were completely illogical. The sun is out, the skies are blue and life is good again - yay!

Of course, not everyone is rejoicing at creeping temperatures - our pet friends can have a hard time dealing with the hotter climate thanks to all that fur that makes them the perfect winter snuggle buddies. And, because Aussies really, really love their pets, we naturally want to find ways to keep them safe and comfortable now that the mercury is rising.

With that dilemma in mind, one Kmart shopper took to Facebook to seek reviews for a pet item that would keep her fur-bestie feeling their most fabulous.

The product in question is the Pet Cooling Mat - which contains a cooling gel that absorbs your pet's body heat and dissipates it into the environment. The "coolest" part of the mat is that it doesn't require any water, refrigeration or electricity to work, you simply roll it out and let your doggo or cat mate live their best life. The mat comes in a large size for $20 or a smaller size for $12.

While there were a few dissenting remarks, for the most part, there were plenty of happy Kmart customers and pet owners who were very happy with their purchase.

"They're amazing!!!," one person raved.

"Yes I use it for my staffy who overheats easily and struggles in summer, he lays flat on his belly on it," another dog parent shared.

"My dogs and cat love it! I’ve got two around the house," said yet another happy customer.

"My dogs love these, even if they have anxiety from a visit to the vet, they come home and lay on them," someone else said, making me wonder if perhaps the cure for MY anxiety is a $20 pet product from Slaymart.

However, a couple of people were not as convinced of the merits of the mat and suggested that they were a waste of time and money.

"IMO useless, money better spent elsewhere," was one such response.

Other people revealed that the mats might not be suitable for ALL creatures great and small - particularly if your pet has a good set of teeth or talons on them.

"My rotti put holes in it with his claws within 2 mins," one person said.

"My dog loved it but chewed the corner in a few days and it started leaking," another wrote.

"Every time I buy these for my cats they put holes in them with their claws and the gel oozes out," a third lamented.

Others still suggested that the ones from Petbarn or Bunnings were a better option.

The most surprising rave reviews, however, came from women who said that the pet cooling mats had been a lifesaver....for them!

"Reckon it’ll work for a batsh*t crazy, menopausal woman??," one Kmart fan asked. "Asking for a friend."

"For you menopausal ladies out there - they are fantastic in your bed at the feet area when you have night sweats. Having cool feet seems to help," someone replied.

"Best menopause mat ever," another person shared.

"I'm now going to refer to this as the menopause mat!" someone else laughed.

Other people said that the mats were perfect for keeping children (of the human variety) cool as well with a few shoppers saying they used the item for their babies to play on.

So, whether you are battling hormonal sweats or wanting the very best for your pets (or kids), it sounds like Kmart has the answer.
