As the warmer months roll in and outdoor dining becomes a fixture of Aussie life, it’s time to tackle summer’s most persistent party crashers—flies. If you’re seeking a way to keep your alfresco meals fly-free, Kmart has a solution you might have overlooked: a fly-repelling fan. Priced at under $6, this clever gadget is quickly becoming a must-have for anyone looking to enjoy their summer BBQs without the annoyance of flies.

Western Australian Kmart shopper, Amber Hope, recently shared her enthusiasm for these tabletop fans with soft-touch rotor blades that spin to repel flies in a popular Facebook group. Her post quickly ignited widespread interest and excitement. Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle, Amber expressed her satisfaction with the purchase, saying, “I love these fly fans. I’ve had them before, but I’m so glad Kmart brought out a cheaper version.”

Amber detailed the fan’s features, noting, “They’re sold in the camping section and are battery-operated. It takes two AA batteries.” The fans are also equipped with a handle, making them ideal for hanging at parks or during camping trips, which adds a layer of convenience to their practicality.

In her experience, Amber has successfully used these fans to fend off insects at various events, from outdoor parties to festive gatherings.

“I have used these to keep flies away at parties, when we have food out, and at Christmas when we eat outside." She also highlighted that the fans’ soft blades ensure they’re safe for use around children, making them a great addition to family-friendly occasions. Plus, being chemical-free means you don’t have to worry about sprays or insect repelling roll-ons.

Despite the positive feedback, not everyone has had a flawless experience. One shopper cautioned, “Make sure you test them as soon as possible. I had to exchange one twice at another store because of a noise issue.”

However Amber reassured Yahoo Lifestyle that in her opinion the noise level is minimal and won’t interfere with your gathering. “The fans only make a tiny sound,” she said.

Indeed, many users find the fans to be a practical and valuable addition to their summer gear.

“These are great. We use them in the cafe when doing functions,” another commenter shared.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, a Kmart spokesperson confirmed the Anko Fly Repellent Fans are in-store Australia wide and this product will be back online, available for Australian customers, by the end of the week.
