Kmart shopper discovers X-rated detail in Christmas decoration: 'Inappropriate'
One person joked that the elf looks ‘very happy to see you’.
With Christmas just a few weeks away, shoppers have begun setting up their trees, wrapping gifts and buying advent calendars to count down to December 25. Parents are also preparing to start Elf on the Shelf, a holiday tradition where a mischievous elf plays hide-and-seek around the house each day.
While the festive game is aimed at kids, one shopper hoping to buy an elf toy on a budget this week discovered a rather X-rated detail in Kmart’s $5 mini elf decoration. Cassie took to social media to question whether anyone else thought the figurine was “inappropriate” because of its phallic-shaped nose.

“Been looking for an elf now, delete if too inappropriate but um, why Kmart?” she remarked alongside a photo of the clearly excited elf.
Clever use for 'inappropriate' item
Cassie tells Yahoo Lifestyle she ultimately decided to shop elsewhere for an elf but thought Kmart’s product was “hilarious”.
“My first thought was, ‘Oh my, what a big nose you have’,” she laughs. “I wasn’t tempted to buy it as a joke but it would be a good way to call someone a d**khead.”
She adds that she wonders whether anyone at Kmart did a “quality check” because of how “inappropriate” it is for children.
“Did they know what it looked like? Because the Elf on the Shelf doesn’t normally have a nose like that,” she remarks.
Shoppers poke fun at X-rated detail
Cassie’s social media post quickly racked up plenty of hilarious comments from fellow Kmart shoppers, with one person joking: “He is very happy to see you.”
“Designed by a bloke,” another added, while a third joked, “That's one big nose”.
“Pinocchio Version 2,” someone else laughed, followed by a different user who said, “But I’m just a little boy”.
“If you press the magic buzzer he is holding, then what happens?” one shopper questioned, to which Cassie replied, “I don’t think I even want to know”.

Where can I buy Elf on the Shelf?
If you’re hoping to buy a more family-friendly elf for Christmas, Kmart stocks the traditional Elf on the Shelf book and toy bundle for $55 - available as both a boy and girl. They also sell the ‘World’s Smallest Elf on the Shelf’ toy by itself for just $10.
Meanwhile, Woolworths stocks a different branded elf figurine for $25. While the item is described as a ‘naughty elf’, its nose is significantly smaller than Kmart’s.
