King Charles accused of having 'temper tantrum' in awkward moment: 'Tragic'
"He’s always annoyed about something - pens, robes, waiting…" one X user said of King Charles.
King Charles is facing backlash online after social media users believed he had a 'temper tantrum' during the State Opening of Parliament this week. A video of a page boy attempting to adjust the King's robe over the Sovereign Throne has gone viral because His Majesty appears to pull his hand back suddenly and tries to rearrange the robes himself.

While it looked like a rather awkward moment, Charles can be heard saying, "thank you," to the boy twice. However, this doesn't appear on all versions of the video that are making the rounds online.
Charles also famously faced backlash after becoming irritable over fountain pens on two separate occasions soon after his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, died in 2022. On one of the occasions, his pen started leaking, with Charles exclaiming in frustration that he "can't bear this bloody thing". The incidents soon became known as 'pengate'.
It’s the pen all over again, only this time it’s a child that’s on the receiving end of the temper tantrum 🥴 #KingsSpeech pic.twitter.com/HoGVJENDz3

He joked about the moment while giving an address later that year, saying the British gave a great "ability to laugh at ourselves".
"Just as well, you may say, given some of the vicissitudes I have faced with frustratingly failing fountain pens this year!" the King quipped.
Social media divided over King's awkward moment
Social media users were divided over this week's robe video, with one X user writing, "It’s the pen all over again, only this time it’s a child that’s on the receiving end of the temper tantrum."
"He’s always annoyed about something - pens, robes, waiting…" another said.
"This is tragic," a third said. "Entitlement and look at the state of him. Rude and ignorant. A perfect reflection of the royal family."
"This is ridiculous," someone else added.
Others were more understanding, with one user writing, "My guy is battling cancer. Treatment can make you irritable. Cut him some slack fam."

"He’s the King, he can be annoyed if he wants to be," another said.
"How silly. It was clearly stuck and he flicked it to help the boy," a third wrote. "No tantrum there 🤦♀️."
