They say you learn new things every day. Today, I am learning new things about Kate Beckinsale.
Specifically, I am learning that Kate dated comedian Matt Rife in 2017 and 2018, whilst she was undergoing divorce from then-husband and filmmaker Len Wiseman.
Honestly, I didn't even know Matt Rife existed before, like, the COVID-19 pandemic. I figured that he was conjured out of thin air purely to irritate people through endless crowd work. (Don't tell me I need to follow the world of standup comedy more closely. I refuse.)
So, apparently there were rumors flying around that Kate kissed Matt at a Netflix afterparty following this past Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony.
Matt himself is no stranger to responding to rumors — but this time he's off the hook, because Kate's reps took care of clearing the air for him.
In a statement to People, Kate's team denied the rumors that she and Matt were engaged in some awards season smooching.
“It is incorrect that they were kissing,” the rep said. “They are friendly exes who were having a fun time speaking."
Well, that settles that!
