Karl Stefanovic's estranged dad sends touching message ahead of host's wedding

They haven’t had the smoothest relationship over the years but Karl Stefanovic’s estranged father Alex has confirmed the pair have reconciled by sharing a sweet message ahead of his son’s wedding in Mexico.

Proving the past is firmly in the past, the 71-year-old revealed his hopes for the happy couple from his home in Queensland.

He admitted: [The marriage] will be a game changer. He’ll be very happy I’m sure… I just wish them all the very best for the rest of their lives.”

As for his advice on how the lovebirds can keep their relationship going from strength to strength, Alex added: “Treat every day like it’s your last and love one another like there’s no tomorrow.”

The Today Show host’s father then confirmed that he had been invited to join Karl and Jasmine Yarbrough for their big day at at the One&Only Pamilla in Los Cabos this weekend but he was forced to decline for medical reasons.

“I was [invited] about three months ago. I was very hopeful of going but unfortunately, I’ve got a condition which stopped me from getting on a plane for 24 hours or so,” Alex said.

“Karl said he was very very disappointed. He and Jasmine were very disappointed that I wasn’t able to make it. That’s the way life is.”

Alex also gushed that his relationship with his son is doing “better than ever”.

He added: “We have some issues to sort through and I’m happy to say we’ve sorted through those and our relationship is probably better than ever.”

Karl and Jasmine are expected to tie the knot this weekend, with 60 lucky invitees attending, including Karl’s Today co-host Richard Wilkins and former foreign minister Julie Bishop.

His three kids from his 21 year marriage to Cassandra Thorburn have flown in for the special event too, even his eldest son Jackson 19, who had been rumoured to be missing their nuptials.

But apparently Karl’s best man James Packer won’t be making an appearance.

The billionaire had been rumoured to be right by Karl’s side, but the latest reports claim James has decided to skip the lavish ceremony to celebrate his mum’s 80th birthday in Argentina instead.

“Unfortunately he is not able to make the wedding due to this being such a special opportunity to spend time with his mother on this auspicious birthday for her,” a source told The Daily Telegraph.

Another familiar face we won’t be seeing in his wedding snaps though is that of his former co-host Lisa Wilkinson, who confirmed recently she has been left out of the event.

The pair worked alongside each other for 10 years before Lisa, 58, departed for The Project.
