The real reason Lisa Wilkinson was snubbed from Karl's wedding
It’s the upcoming wedding that’s caused a stir among entertainment circles.
Today show host Karl Stefanovic is set to tie the knot with Jasmine Yarbrough in Mexico next month, but while plenty of TV royalty is expected to be in attendance, his former co-host Lisa Wilkinson revealed last week she hadn’t been invited.
And now an insider has told New Idea that Lisa wouldn’t have gone to the wedding even if she had been invited.
“It would just be awkward for everyone having to make small talk over canapés,” the source told the publication.
The 58-year-old Project host confirmed to Sydney Confidential last week she will not be attending Karl’s upcoming nuptials.
The reason why? “I have not been invited,” she said.
And it seems Karl knew having his former colleague there would potentially lead to some awkward confrontations, and so decided to leave her off the guest list altogether, the insider claims.
“There is too much water under that bridge now and they both know it’s too hard to come back from everything that’s been said and done,” the source said.
Guests would have included former Channel Nine bosses and colleagues, as well as people who may have lost their jobs if Lisa got the pay rise she was after, according to the insider.
“Karl still works with people whose heads were on the chopping block. Some of them are friends of his,” the person revealed, adding her attendance would have “gone down like a lead balloon”.
It comes as the presenter also admitted while she does miss “elements” from her time on the Nine Network breakfast show, she’s more focused on her new role.
“There are elements of Today which I do miss, but I am so focused on my new life and the new challenges I have,” she said.
Lisa left Today in October last year, jumping ship to Network Ten to snag a spot on The Project.
Her exit from the network after 10 years came after speculation surrounding her salary expectations, with reports Lisa demanded the same pay as co-host Karl, who reportedly earns $2 million.
