Julie de Libran Channeled Her Inner Warrior for Spring 2025 Couture

Even couture clients need to feel battle-ready sometimes. Julie de Libran channeled Amazon-like warrior women in her designs, and with her habitual personal touch. Hosted once again in her Left Bank home, with guests seated in the expansive living room and kitchen space and New York-based singer-songwriter Lila Dupont, a friend of the designer, performing an acoustic set, she dedicated the collection to another friend, the actress and model Dayle Haddon, who died in December. “She was an icon and an Amazon,” she said.

The collection, as usual made with deadstock and sustainable fabrics, was as lavish as the setting, with draped dresses in metallic or sequined fabrics worn robe-like. “Nothing is literal, there’s a medieval side to it, an armor side, a strong side, the idea of an Amazon woman who lifts up her skirt and heads off on her horse to conquer the world,” de Libran explained before the show. “We’re all so busy, and as a woman, I feel like we need to feel strong and to share that strength.”

Sun pleats and liquid lamé ensembles in silver were intended to evoke armor, while allover sequins looked like chain mail on a number of the looks, including the long train dresses that saw the models hitching up their skirts on the runway.

Gold chains featured heavily, as choker-like necklaces, decorative details or encircling the body and dangling over a simple black sheath dress. Brooches set with vivid multicolored stones and chasuble-like robes were further design features that nodded to bygone times, while elaborate fringe details enhanced the sense of opulence and were done in a variety of ways, from the opening hooded coat with silver beading to a jacket and skirt with feather-like sequin fringing.

More contemporary, tailored pieces were done in allover sequins, too, in ivory or black or combinations of the two. Brushed in alternate ways, they had the look of camouflage about them.
