Influencer Opens Up About ‘Lesson Learned’ After Falling for Morgan Wallen Scam
A social media influencer recently warned country music fans to be on alert about a scam that she fell victim to while attempting to purchase tickets for Morgan Wallen’s Sand in My Boots festival.
Tickets for the 2025 event, which takes place in May in Gulf Shores, Ala., officially sold out last fall. But as Macy Blackwell explained in a video posted on Instagram on Feb. 3, she discovered a Facebook group in which she believed it would be possible to purchase tickets that were being re-sold online.
“I just got scammed $5,000 on Facebook, and I can’t do anything about it,” Blackwell said to begin her video. She added a quick clarification, seemingly anticipating critical comments. “Let me start by saying that none of this would have happened if I wasn’t dumb,” she said. “Like, honestly, it’s my fault for being stupid and naïve, and falling for the scam.”
As Blackwell explained, she found a Facebook group of about 12,000 people and believed it to be legitimate due to page’s size and frequency of posts. She contacted a page administrator directly and seemingly reached an agreement to purchase two wristbands for the festival for a total of $5,000.
After sending the amount via Apple Pay, the influencer said two hours passed before she heard from the page administrator again. She then received a suspicious-looking email said to contain the tickets, and said, “That’s when I knew.”
Blackwell said she heard from the page administrator once more when they asked for more money to cover “fees” associated with the alleged ticket transfer. She did not respond to the request, and the page administrator soon after seemingly deleted their account.
“Her whole page is gone,” Blackwell said. “Our whole message thread’s gone—which I was screenshotting as I was going anyway. Not like it matters now.”
Blackwell said she went to sleep that night “feeling sick.”
“But, life lesson learned,” she concluded. "I’m never gonna try to buy anything on Facebook again.”
