Renée Zellweger Co-Signed the Naked Dress Trend in Sheer Black Lace on the Red Carpet
She and Hugh Grant reunited in coordinating 'Bridget Jones' premiere looks.
Bridget Jones might be one of the most iconic characters Renée Zellweger has played during her three-decade-long career, but the actress flouted the method dressing trend beloved by Zendaya, Margot Robbie, and basically the whole cast of Wicked as she stepped out to promote Bridget Jones’s latest chapter on January 27. Zellweger was the epitome of a screen siren as she walked the red carpet alongside co-star Hugh Grant in her take on the naked dress trend: A sheer black lace gown with an asymmetrical shoulder design and a daring thigh-high slit.
Over two decades after the 2001 release of Bridget Jones’s Diary, Zellweger and Grant cued the nostalgia as they reunited in coordinating looks for the Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy premiere in Paris. Zellweger–who memorably turned heads at the 2001 UK premiere in a bodycon black Alaïa dress with sheer cutout panels that flashed her entire stomach, her arms, and her legs–put a fresh twist on the sheer LBD for her latest Bridget Jones red carpet.
Her Saint Lauren by Anthony Vaccarello gown was sexy yet elegant, featuring scalloped lace along the neckline and a one-shoulder design that left one of her arms completely bare. As Zellweger turned on the red carpet, she flashed some extra skin with a thigh-high slit that was also edged with the same scalloped lace. Black pointy-toed heels and a turquoise and gold cocktail ring finished off her outfit.
The Chicago actress accentuated her black dress’s neckline by wearing her freshly-cropped blond hair in a side-parted low ponytail with her side-swept bangs tucked behind one ear. Her glowing glam–monochromatic peachy hues on her cheeks and lips–were paired with a swipe of black eyeliner.
Meanwhile, Grant complemented his longtime Bridget Jones co-star with a dapper black suit, black dress shoes, and a crisp white dress shirt that he wore unbuttoned to give it a more casual feel–a sartorial move that his character, Daniel Cleaver, would no doubt approve of.
