Here’s How Orlando Bloom Reacted To Keira Knightley’s Raw Comments About The Cruel Criticism She Faced While Filming “Pirates Of The Caribbean”

Late last year, Keira Knightley revealed her mixed feelings toward the Pirates of the Caribbean films, the first in which she starred in 2003.

Of course, Keira played Elizabeth Swann in the fan-favorite franchise alongside Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow) and Orlando Bloom (Will Turner).

Keira was just 17 when she appeared in the first Pirates film, The Curse of the Black Pearl. She went on to star in Dead Man's Chest in 2006, At World's End in 2007, and Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017.

Sadly, Keira’s performance in the Pirates movies prompted cruel criticism, including body-shaming and rumors that she had an eating disorder.

Speaking with the Times last November, Keira, now 39, looked back on the unfair scrutiny she faced while starring in the Pirates franchise.

“It’s a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time. I was seen as shit because of them, and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for,” she explained.

“They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. So they’re a very confused place in my head,” she continued.

Keira went on to state that she would not return to the franchise. “The hours are insane. It’s years of your life, you have no control over where you’re filming, how long you’re filming, what you’re filming,” she shared.

For context, it was revealed last May that Jeff Nathanson and Margot Robbie are currently working on two separate Pirates reboots.

Now, fellow Pirates of the Caribbean alum Orlando Bloom has reacted to Keira’s candid comments.

During a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Orlando explained that he definitely understands Keira’s remarks.

“It was such a huge moment in time that is almost like… it feels almost like another lifetime now,” he began.

“But it certainly was unique and, you know, I’m always grateful. But I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things.… I have a lot of positive takeaways,” he added.

Orlando went on to note that he’s not against returning to the franchise himself.

“Listen, it was a wild and fun experience so, you know, never say never,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for that experience, and Jerry, and the whole thing. But who knows? I mean, it's sort of one of those things I really haven't thought about it, really.”
