In the midseason finale back in December, the Fly Team thought they had burgeoning supervillain Greg Csonka in their clutches, and that they were about to get justice for Wes Mitchell's (Jesse Lee Soffer) dead friend. Csonka, of course, had other plans, as a sniper shot Vo while he escaped. The winter premiere picked up where that episode left off, with Vo's life hanging in the balance while the Fly Team fought with territorial international law enforcement to chase Csonka down.
Things got worse before they got better. Raines (Carter Redwood) realized it was time to use Vo's list of people to call if something happened to her, and revealed that they each had the other's list. Before he could get to it, Raines was taken by Csonka for his FBI credentials, and Tate (Christina Wolfe) had to find both Vo and Raines' lists.
Raines managed to lead the team to his location, and the whole thing ended with Mitchell and Booth (Jay Hayden) chasing Csonka on foot. Mitchell shot him after a little last-minute taunting, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief when doctors confirmed that Vo was in recovery.
So what happens next for Vo, and does that emotional reminder of her closeness with Raines mean their will they/won't they vibes are back on? Read on for Vidotto's reaction to the drama and a few teases for what's coming up in the back half of this season of FBI: International.

What was it like to read through this storyline and discover you were getting a little time off?
It was an epic script, and I loved that it was a three-parter. I was down for it. A couple of our main cast have been shot in the past, and it's always something heartwrenching for the team; they go through it together. So that's always a nice moment, even though it's unfortunate. There's a dual feeling that happens when something like this goes down: Shocked and excited and intrigued. The script was written so well by Edgar Castillo and it was directed so well by Michael Cattleman, and it was so fun to do the interrogation scenes with Csonka. He's so good, so menacing.
He felt like a worthwhile adversary for a storyline like this.
Yes. Good writing, good villain. It was just epic. It's like if I'm gonna go down, that's how I want to go down.
Did you get any warning that this was coming?
Nope.
That's terrifying.
When we read the scripts, we're like "No, stop!" [When I read the midseason finale], I was like, "I guess it's my turn. I volunteer as tribute."
So you're not even in this midseason premiere. Have you seen it, or did you read the script?
So I actually did not read [Episode 9]. I did it on purpose, because you read every script and then you perform it. I just watch movies through the eyes of an actor now. I just kind of wish that I could take that away. I just want to enjoy it, but sometimes you get too picky and things like that. I was like, "Oh my god, I'm not going to read this. I just want to see what my castmates do, and I want to enjoy it not as a cast member." I'm still going to watch it as an actor, but at least it's one step away from being too inside of it. So honestly, I know the gist of it, but I want to see where it goes. I want to be on the ride with the audience.
Whenever we do see you again, how does this affect Vo? Does she take some time to recover or is the show moving too fast for that?
Yes, correct. It's a fast-paced show, but Vo's also very resilient and very hungry, and she's not one to sit back and relax. I think the Fly Team is a special type of team to be out in Europe and doing all these things, and the Fly Team is actually a real team that operates in Europe. I think she's not gonna be down for long any time soon.

Does it affect her emotionally at all?
I'm sure it does. And if the writers wanted to expand on that, they could. But I think she's very resilient. She moves forward; she's glad she's alive. She's had two teammates in the past get shot, and I think she's witnessed how they handle it. And I think she has this higher purpose of, like, "I've got to be there for my team. They were there for her, and let's not dwell about it."
This episode had some reminders that Vo and Raines are super close, but there haven't been many scenes with them this season. Is that changing?
I think this season, the focus is on Wes because he's new to the team. So I think it's all about getting to know him and seeing how the team interacts with him. I obviously have a past connection with him, because he was my training mentor. It morphs and evolves. And I think the friendship between Raines and Smitty got a lot closer last season when she went through finding out who her real dad was, and he's been there for Amanda as well. We'll see.
So their friendship isn't special? Don't they have a shipper name?
They do. Carter knows. He's on Twitter. He knows when we just give a look in a scene, or a fist bump, it goes on, and there are these names. Carter knows.
OK, well we've been waiting for somebody to flirt with somebody. It's been a while on this show. Wes is single, right? And Jay said there might be some flirtation coming up.
That's a Jay answer for sure. That is a Jay answer. We'll see, we'll see. I know, but I don't know at the same time. We'll just have to see.
Well other than that, how would you describe the back half of the season?
I'm telling you, it sounds so cheesy to say, but it just gets more epic and crazy. I can tell you it gets bigger, and I'm not just saying that. No, it gets bigger, bigger than…not that you can ever downsize after you do these episodes four years in. You can't get smaller. Ask the writers. They've got ideas, and our production team, they've got locations. And maybe things that you've been waiting for, maybe they will start to emerge.
FBI: International airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
