‘Beef’ Season 2 Is Happening: Here’s Everything We Know So Far
Have you been eagerly awaiting Beef season two? You’re not alone. Netflix’s sneaky smash hit quickly captivated fans when it premiered in 2023, praised for its portrayal of two deeply flawed characters, Amy Lau (Ali Wong) and Danny Cho (Stephen Yeun), who fall down a revenge rabbit hole following a road rage incident in Southern California. Its runaway success led the series to eight Emmy wins in 2024, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. It also took home three Golden Globes awards—the same as FX’s The Bear—and earned a perfect score of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The A24 produced dark comedy was written and produced by director Lee Sung Jin. In an interview with Newsweek, he revealed the true story that led him to create the viral show. “The initial idea was unfortunately based on a road rage that happened to me,” Jin told the magazine. “It involved a white SUV, much like the show, but it didn’t end even remotely close to any of the scenes of the show, thank God. But, going through that it felt interesting cause I just felt myself so trapped in my subjective reality and was projecting so many assumptions onto this other person, and I assume he was projecting a lot of things onto me, and that was the nugget.”

Not unlike HBO’s The White Lotus, Beef was originally pitched as an anthology series and closely examines themes such as money and status—just check out Amy’s insane house in Calabasas. Another thing the series did well was explore anger and the lengths people will go when they’re overcome with rage, setting the stage for new storylines in a potential season two. Below, we’re breaking down everything there is to know about the next season of Beef.
Will There Be a Season 2 of Beef?
Yes. In October, a year and a half after Beef’s debut, Netflix renewed its critically acclaimed anthology for a second season. Prior to the announcement, it was rumored that a sophomore installment was forthcoming, however, nothing had been confirmed. Jin will continue to serve as the showrunner and executive producer. Yeun, Wong, and Jake Schreier are also back to executive produce.
Before it was officially greenlit, Jin was asked by reporters whether he thought future seasons were in the cards. “I feel like there are so many paths,” he replied. “It could stay limited—it was a very close-ended story for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology. It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.”
When Will It Air? Beef Season 2 Release Date
There is no official release date for season two yet. That said, season one premiered on Netflix in April 2023 and consisted of 10 episodes. The streamer confirmed that the next installment will include eight 30-minute episodes but didn’t give a timeline as to when they’re expected to drop. At the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in January, Carey Mulligan, one of the stars of season two, told Variety that she she “just started” filming the sophomore installment. So if we had to speculate, we’d say the series could return in late 2025 at the earliest or spring 2026.
Beef Season 2 Cast: Who’s Returning?
Even though Beef is returning for a second season, Yeun and Wong are not expected to be back on screen. At the same time of the renewal news, Netflix announced the star-studded lineup for the upcoming installment which includes Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny (Knives Out 3), and Academy Award-winning-actress Youn Yuh-Jung. South Korean actor Song Kang-Ho from the 2019 Oscar winner Parasite is also set to appear, along with William Fichtner, Seoyeon Jang, Mikaela Hoover, and K-Pop star BM, according to the latest casting news.
“I cannot wait,” Spaeny told Entertainment Weekly. “I love that show so much and it’s such brilliant writing. I am so excited to jump in. We’ve got the scripts coming in, and they are batshit. So, it’s gonna be fun.” Despite what rumors may have suggested, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway will not be joining the cast.
Beef Season 2 Plot: What Will Happen?
Being an anthology, the series will focus on a new incident and a different group of characters from the previous installment. The first season followed two strangers after a road-rage encounter. If you recall, Danny was a failing contractor who entered a feud with Amy, a self-made female entrepreneur.
From what was revealed in the season two logline: “A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.” In terms of who’s playing who, Spaeny and Melton will star as the young couple while Youn will assume the role of billionaire owner. Isaac and Mulligan will appear as the second couple. Meanwhile, BM will portray a former tennis pro who runs the club’s tennis shop, Jang will act as a translator, and Fitchner will play a wealthy country club member with Hoover acting as his trophy wife.
“Almost everything [is different],” Mulligan told Variety. “But it’s still [creator Lee Sung Jin] being brilliant. It’s a completely new story and if I say anything else then a laser beam will appear on my head. But it’s very exciting.”
