Erdem’s Dark, Romantic Flowers Bloom Across New Barbour Collection

LONDON – Erdem and Barbour are teaming once again, this time for a standalone collection strewn with the brand’s signature shadowy flower patterns.

The Barbour X Erdem collection features four Barbour outerwear styles: Beauflower, Dhalia, Clover, and Constance. The tailored pieces come in olive and sand tones, and are embellished with Erdem’s signature floral prints.

The new collection follows a runway collaboration between the two brands for the spring 2024 collection, where designer Erdem Moralioglu took inspiration from the wardrobe of Deborah Cavendish, the late Duchess of Devonshire.

“I was inspired by the extraordinary Barbour archive, particularly their fabrications and hardware, and loved the idea of translating their heritage of practical, utilitarian details and combining it with my language of the feminine,” said Erdem Moralioglu.

Nicola Brown, Barbour’s director of Womenswear, said the collection “marries the timeless craftsmanship and quality of both brands, taking Erdem’s romantic and contemporary approach, combined with our most iconic silhouettes and wax” fabrics.

Styles feature patchworked waxed cottons with inky rose bloom and etched flower overprints. One jacket blends the Barbour tartan with a grass green rose placement print. Nearly all styles have utilitarian details, and detachable hoods.

As part of the capsule, Erdem and Barbour have also collaborated on a Re-Loved initiative. Some 25 previously-owned Beaufort jackets have been restored with an oversized corduroy collar and embellished with silver hardware eyelets, taking inspiration from Erdem’s spring 2024 runway show.

The capsule will be sold at Barbour.com and selected retailers from this week, with prices that range from 69.95 pounds for a wax hood to 679 pounds for the Beauflower Wax Jacket.

Erdem isn’t the only brand that’s been working with Barbour. Earlier this month, during the Paris Men’s Shows, Paul Smith unveiled a collaboration with the outerwear brand.

Called Paul Smith Loves Barbour, the 23-piece collection features reimagined versions of Barbour’s signature waxed jackets, alongside knitwear, accessories, and t-shirts.

The styles, which will be released in the fall, were inspired by livestock competitions and farm shows. They have a colorful Smith twist, and a recurring Friesian cow motif.

The Bedale jacket – Barbour’s most famous design – is at the core of the collaboration, and comes in a patchwork stripe for men and women, as well as block color versions in a number of shades including inky blue and purple.

Dame Margaret Barbour, chair of J Barbour & Sons, received a special recognition award at the Fashion Awards in London in December. She was honored for her contributions to the fashion industry and longstanding commitment to British excellence and innovation.

She is the doyenne of the family business, which is based in northeast England, outside Newcastle. She was appointed to the board of directors in 1968 after the sudden death of her husband, John Barbour, and in 1973 became chairman of the now 130-year-old company.
