Dua Lipa is always one for unexpected fashion choices — and today was no different. Stepping out of a recording studio in New York City earlier today, the singer cut a strikingly colorless figure, wearing a faded gray-blue demin jacket, a gray tank top and a gray maxi skirt with a thigh high slit. Peeking out from beneath the thick fabric of her skirt, we glimpsed a pair of black tights and knee-high Bottega Veneta leather boots.

She accessorized with some hardcore silver stacked earrings and the metallic Gucci Horsebit bag.

Overall, the singer left a rather washed out, grunge-y impression, with a hint of the dominatrix coming into play thanks to the boots and accessories.

Dua's third studio album is set to drop on May 3rd and, so far, it's been an era of black, leather and a lot of leg. Just take her recent pantsless green leather trench look. While this latest look may be a little more toned down, going for a head-to-toe gray ensemble takes guts.

And Dua's daring monochrome look isn't the only brave thing the singer has been doing lately. Earlier today, the singer took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video from the set of her music video for "The Illusion".

In the video, she can be seen shakily mounting a giant platform featuring three tiers of backup dancers.

“The record as a whole is more mature,” she recently told TIME. “I'm definitely not the same person I was when I wrote my first album. I've evolved and learned so much… taking it as it comes, not seeing anything as bad or something as a setback. That involves a lot of growing and understanding myself, knowing my worth, whether it be in business, love, or friendship."

One thing's for sure — with the release of Radical Optimism, we'll certainly be seeing a whole new side of Dua Lipa. And that goes way beyond her new penchant for monochrome.
